Book excerpt: In 1980 in Toledo, Ohio—on one of the holiest days of the church calendar—the body of a nun was discovered in the sacristy of a hospital chapel. Seventy-one-year-old Sister Margaret Ann had been strangled and stabbed, her corpse arranged in a shameful and stomach-churning pose. But the police's most likely suspect was inexplicably released and the investigation was quietly buried. Despite damning evidence, Father Gerald Robinson went free. Twenty-three years later the priest's name resurfaced in connection with a bizarre case of satanic ritual and abuse. It prompted investigators to exhume the remains of the slain nun in search of the proof left behind that would indelibly mark Father Robinson as Sister Margaret Ann's killer: the sign of the Devil. When Satan Wore a Cross is a shocking true story of official cover-ups, madness, murder and lies—and of an unholy human monster who disguised himself in holy garb.

Book excerpt: “Pope Joan has all the elements one wants in a historical drama—love, sex, violence, duplicity, and long-buried secrets. Cross has written an engaging book.”—Los Angeles Times Book Review In this international bestseller and basis for the 2009 movie of the same name, Donna Woolfolk Cross brings the Dark Ages to life in all their brutal splendor and shares the dramatic story of a woman whose strength of vision led her to defy the social restrictions of her day. For a thousand years her existence has been denied. She is the legend that will not die—Pope Joan, the ninth-century woman who disguised herself as a man and rose to become the only female ever to sit on the throne of St. Peter. Now in this riveting novel, Cross paints a sweeping portrait of an unforgettable heroine who struggles against restrictions her soul cannot accept. Brilliant and talented, young Joan rebels against medieval social strictures forbidding women to learn. When her brother is brutally killed during a Viking attack, Joan takes up his cloak—and his identity—and enters the monastery of Fulda. As Brother John Anglicus, Joan distinguishes herself as a great scholar and healer. Eventually, she is drawn to Rome, where she becomes enmeshed in a dangerous web of love, passion, and politics. Triumphing over appalling odds, she finally attains the highest office in Christendom—wielding a power greater than any woman before or since. But such power always comes at a price . . . “Brings the savage ninth century vividly to life in all its alien richness. An enthralling, scholarly historical novel.”—Rebecca Fraser, author of The Brontës

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heaven is just as much part of earth as Hell is. Heaven wasn't always peaceful and Hell never will be at peace. Hell and Heaven is part of life as we journey through it daily as we face our trials and tribulations. Life is what you make of it, but it is what it is. Heaven is real and so is Hell. Despite what goodness lies ahead, evil always presents itself within. There is a God, despite what many believe. There is always a higher being above- spiritual, but mysterious. Mankind didn't make the world; they're just made to help keep the world going. Many don't believe in a God, but all believes there is a devil. But many people despite their belief, find themselves calling on God in situations; where those who believes knows who God is and what he can do. But through everything, it matters how you choose to live your life and treat people. We're here for one another to love, help, and respect in a way we would want for ourselves. We are not here just to live a life; we are all here for a purpose. We were created out of love and without our choice, God chose our families, our gender, our skin tone as he saw fit. God didn't make us to be superior or inferior over others because of our gender, our skin tone, or because we have or have not. Money and power can't give you the peace of mind, the happiness you deserve, nor the love you desire because the more you get, the more you want. But prayer is powerful and so is faith. In this life the good goes with the bad. We can't live this life alone not needing somebody at some time or another. You're not liable for how people treat you, but you are held responsible for how you treat them. Forgiveness and reconciliation is deep and can be a burden uplifted. It pays to live life at your best doing what's right than living with regrets. We reap what kind of life we sow and what goes around comes around both the good and the bad. Jesus was once a kid and did kid things until he reached adulthood, he put childish things behind. And God like any real father, don't want to see their kid suffering or hurt as he saw the people mistreat his son on earth. But God being a compassionate, forgiving, and loving God accepted his son plea to help bring mankind back to him at whatever it took. Jesus loved us so much despite our attitude and behavior that he gave up a peaceful life in heaven to come to a condemn world to save us from being destroyed. Satan always envied Jesus, but he knew Jesus didn't deserve to be mistreated although him himself tried tempting him as he has done to mankind and the angels in heaven. Jesus took the abuse, tolerated the lies, bears the cross, and dies out of love for us. Satan is desperate for power and control that he only can gain through the people sinful ways. Satan would go through any attempt to get people to give him their soul through lies and temptation. Although, Satan preys on the weak and vulnerable. He doesn't make anyone do anything, he just makes bad look good, and revenge looks rewarding. He knows how to manipulate and deceive you. He uses your mistakes and past of secrets against you. But through all and in the end good always wins one way or another. This book is about life and the things we go through. It tells you there's nothing new under the sun even through the different eras of time. Most of all it tells you that God is and will always be, and that he says what he means and means what he says.

Book excerpt: The story of Nazi Germany is one of conflict between two saviors and two crosses. “Deine Reich komme,” Hitler prayed publicly—“Thy Kingdom come.” But to whose kingdom was he referring? When Germany truly needed a savior, Adolf Hitler falsely assumed the role. He directed his countrymen to a cross, but he bent and hammered the true cross into a horrific substitute: a swastika. Where was the church through all of this? With a few exceptions, the German church looked away while Hitler inflicted his “Final Solution” upon the Jews. Hitler’s Cross is a chilling historical account of what happens when evil meets a silent, shrinking church, and an intriguing and convicting exposé of modern America’s own hidden crosses. Erwin W. Lutzer extracts a number of lessons from this dark chapter in world history, such as: The dangers of confusing church and state The role of God in human tragedy The parameters of Satan's freedom Hitler's Cross is the story of a nation whose church forgot its call and discovered its failure way too late. It is a cautionary tale for every church and Christian to remember who the true King is.

Book excerpt: An astonishing true story of bizarre love and lethal obsession in America's last frontier. Mechele Hughes came to Wasilla, Alaska (pop. 4200), looking for a new life and easy money. As an exotic dancer at the Great Alaskan Bush Company in nearby Anchorage, she was soon earning thousands a night—and getting expensive gifts from admiring male clients. Three in particular fell under her spell. Each claimed to be engaged to her . . . and they all lived with her together in the same house. But in May 1996, the bullet-ridden body of Kent "T.T." Leppink, a local fisherman and one of her fiancés, was discovered in a wooded area ninety miles away—possibly slain by suitor number two, John Carlin III, at the stripper's urging. Ten years would elapse before the arrests and trials of Mechele Hughes Linehan and John Carlin III. Was the real Mechele a murderess, a ruthless sexual manipulator as the prosecution claimed, killing for insurance money—or the loving wife and mother she had since become, dedicated to children, animals, and charitable causes?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How we perceive our enemy will largely determine how we fight against him. Unless we grasp how the devil fits into God's scheme of things, we will find it difficult to stand against his conspiracy against us personally and his influence within our culture. We can have a proper theology of the devil only if we have a proper theology of God. Only when we stand in awe of God will we find it unnecessary to be in awe of Satan. As Martin Luther once said, 'The devil is God's devil.' God is still in control. The Serpent of Paradise gives an overview of the career of Satan and his interaction with the Almighty. It traces his fall from an exalted position to his demise in everlasting shame and contempt. It shows us that Satan always loses even when 'he wins.' Best of all, it confirms that we who have been translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light are able to stand against him. Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. ~ Ephesians 6:10-11 NIV. The Serpent of Paradise is a book about Satan, but it is also a book about God's power, God's program, and God's purposes in this world.
