Book Synopsis Contemporary Perspectives in Data Mining, Volume 1 by : Kenneth D. Lawrence
Download or read book Contemporary Perspectives in Data Mining, Volume 1 written by Kenneth D. Lawrence and published by IAP. This book was released on 2013-04-01 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series, Contemporary Perspectives on Data Mining, is composed of blind refereed scholarly research methods and applications of data mining. This series will be targeted both at the academic community, as well as the business practitioner. Data mining seeks to discover knowledge from vast amounts of data with the use of statistical and mathematical techniques. The knowledge is extracted form this data by examining the patterns of the data, whether they be associations of groups or things, predictions, sequential relationships between time order events or natural groups. Data mining applications are seen in finance (banking, brokerage, insurance), marketing (customer relationships, retailing, logistics, travel), as well as in manufacturing, health care, fraud detection, home-land security, and law enforcement.

Book Synopsis Computational Intelligence in Data Mining - Volume 3 by : Lakhmi C. Jain
Download or read book Computational Intelligence in Data Mining - Volume 3 written by Lakhmi C. Jain and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-11 with total page 717 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contributed volume aims to explicate and address the difficulties and challenges for the seamless integration of two core disciplines of computer science, i.e., computational intelligence and data mining. Data Mining aims at the automatic discovery of underlying non-trivial knowledge from datasets by applying intelligent analysis techniques. The interest in this research area has experienced a considerable growth in the last years due to two key factors: (a) knowledge hidden in organizations’ databases can be exploited to improve strategic and managerial decision-making; (b) the large volume of data managed by organizations makes it impossible to carry out a manual analysis. The book addresses different methods and techniques of integration for enhancing the overall goal of data mining. The book helps to disseminate the knowledge about some innovative, active research directions in the field of data mining, machine and computational intelligence, along with some current issues and applications of related topics.

Book Synopsis Mining for Wisdom within Delusion by : Karl Brunnholzl
Download or read book Mining for Wisdom within Delusion written by Karl Brunnholzl and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2013-01-08 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maitreya’s Distinction between Phenomena and the Nature of Phenomena distinguishes the illusory phenomenal world of saṃsāra produced by the confused dualistic mind from the ultimate reality that is mind’s true nature. The transition from the one to the other is the process of “mining for wisdom within delusion.” Maitreya’s text calls this “the fundamental change,” which refers to the vanishing of delusive appearances through practicing the path, thus revealing the underlying changeless nature of these appearances. In this context, the main part of the text consists of the most detailed explanation of nonconceptual wisdom—the primary driving force of the path as well as its ultimate result—in Buddhist literature. The introduction of the book discusses these two topics (fundamental change and nonconceptual wisdom) at length and shows how they are treated in a number of other Buddhist scriptures. The three translated commentaries, by Vasubandhu, the Third Karmapa, Rangjung Dorje, and Gö Lotsāwa, as well as excerpts from all other available commentaries on Maitreya’s text, put it in the larger context of the Indian Yogācāra School and further clarify its main themes. They also show how this text is not a mere scholarly document, but an essential foundation for practicing both the sūtrayāna and the vajrayāna and thus making what it describes a living experience. The book also discusses the remaining four of the five works of Maitreya, their transmission from India to Tibet, and various views about them in the Tibetan tradition.
Book Synopsis Corporate Social Responsibility in the Mining Industries by : Natalia Yakovleva
Download or read book Corporate Social Responsibility in the Mining Industries written by Natalia Yakovleva and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the concept of corporate social responsibility, this book analyses modern approaches adopted by mining companies that could minimise negative impacts of mining and enhance positive benefits to corporate stakeholders. Using a case study of two mining sectors (gold and diamond mining) the book evaluates policies and practices of mining companies within four key areas of corporate social responsibility: environmental protection, health and safety, employee relations and community development. Also included is an assessment of three models for community development that are developed within the mining industries: company-led approach, establishment of corporate foundation and tri-sector partnership. The study analyses management of corporate social responsibility issues with specific reference to mining in the Russian Federation and provides a comparison with global mining companies.

Book excerpt: Originally published in 1987, John D. Leshy presents this scholarly study of the 1872 Mining Law as a legal treatise and history of mining in the West from the point of view of mineral exploration and production. This mining law governed the United States mining practice yet had never been changed. The Mining Law attempts to highlight the role of policy and government as well as the more obscure elements of the law which complicated mining practice in the eighties. This title will be of interest to students of Environmental Studies and policy makers.
