Book excerpt: One of the many problems the media in Nigeria and developing nations contend with is the absence of current books and journals written by practitioners working within relevant contexts, existing regulations, and local environments. This Book, What They Don't Teach You in Broadcasting, is an experience-based knowledge sharing initiative with practical examples aimed at bridging the increasing gap between theory and practice in Nigeria. The book contains those issues, experiences and realities that journalists must encounter in the practice of the profession which we were not taught in school. It is a contribution to the efforts of our institutions and the media industry in building a functional bridge between the classroom and the field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When author Norman Hill asked hundreds of Church members what they needed to do to prepare for a mission, he was given several answers and suggestions-so many that he realized how easy it was to overlook the most important strengths The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints prescribes for its gospel messengers. Some of the abilities we sometimes fail to consider are • Understanding priesthood leaders' perspectives • Obeying mission rules with exactness • Focusing on commitments and the baptismal interview questions when teaching investigators • Being aware of one's own personal progress and not that of others • Visualizing investigators as our Father in Heaven visualizes them In order for missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to succeed in their sacred calling, they must first be prepared, and in order for them to be prepared, they must first know how. What They Don't Teach at the MTC provides the fundamental foundation needed in order to gain the necessary skills and abilities to serve a successful mission. It is for all those who desire to bring souls unto Christ and reap the blessings thereof. Benjamin Franklin once said, "Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, success, and achievement have no meaning."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Samurai Squadron and the Triton are joined by powerful allies as the war for the Rose System intensifies. As Ronin, Dame and Breaker lead the first strike and fade attack on the blockade around the capital planet of Rodus, they prove one frightening fact: starfighters will lead the war. This is the kind of combat thousands of pilots in the oppressive Order of Eden fleet have been craving, one where drones are made useless thanks to advanced scrambling and security breaches, making flesh-and-blood talent important again. Zealots to the end, the Order and Citadel pilots are spoiling for a fight and will celebrate a bloodbath. This is the war Ronin and the pilots of Samurai Squadron didn't want, but are prepared to fight. The struggles ahead promise to be greater than any they've known but they won’t be alone. Great ships from Haven Fleet, the British Alliance, Nafalli Tribes and several scrappy Privateers are already arriving. While everyone else fights for freedom, glory or supremacy, Remmy Sands is sent on a mission with a small crew aboard the Raven. He hopes that by returning artefacts he found far beneath Rodus' surface he can bring a powerful new ally to Samurai Squadron's side. No one knows much about Planet Grace, but everything suggests that they have strange, promising technology and they may be receptive to the right plea. The fate of an entire solar system hangs in the balance as void warriors clash in the unforgiving, infinite black.

Book excerpt: Conducted in collaboration with 18 community-driven organizations making up the AMPLIFY Girls network, this report synthesizes data from 382 adolescent girls in East Africa, who were school-going prior to COVID-19. Girls were asked about their pandemic-related experiences, their challenges in returning to school and their recommendations for action. At the highest level, our findings suggest that pregnancy is the primary driver of girls’ dropout from school during the pandemic, but that pregnancy is a symptom of underlying, acute, economic vulnerabilities and is augmented by situations of social and physical isolation that are often mutually reinforcing. This data is among the first of its kind and scope, reporting on girls' lived experiences during the Global Pandemic.
