Book excerpt: There are eight types of kingdoms mentioned in the Bible. Two of those kingdoms-the kingdom of God and the kingdom of heaven-constitute the central message of the New Testament. If all the text that speaks directly of these two kingdoms were removed from the New Testament, there wouldn't be enough left to fill up a single page in the newspaper. Yet the kingdom message is completely unknown by a large majority of ministers and their congregations all across this land. There has never been anything spoken so much, yet understood so little. The errors of reformed theology and Armenianism alike are rooted in a misunderstanding of the kingdoms. Most cults, and many of the denominational differences today, can be traced to a lack of understanding of the mystery of the kingdoms. The key to understanding the entire Bible is found in knowing the differences among the eight kingdoms, but especially these two-the kingdom of God and the kingdom of heaven. When readers finish reading this book, they will assuredly know the difference.

In this book, Mystery of the Kingdom of God, you will see the thread of love that Jesus walked as He leaves the purity and love of Heaven to bring the kingdom of God back to the earth and deliver it to its rightful heirs, mankind. Beginning with the loss of the dominion of earth by Adam and it being transferred to Satan, we will travel through time as God and Jesus discuss the need of a redeemer to bring mankind back to the heart of God. We see Jesus graciously accept the challenge to humble Himself by becoming human and doing the only thing that will enable man to again have a personal relationship with the Father God, through His sacrifice on the cross. As the reader explores the simple message of Jesus, they will come to realize who He was, what the kingdom of heaven is, where it is, and why it is so important that Jesus complete His mission on earth.

Book excerpt: Easton's Bible Dictionary is a classic book of definitions which serves to explain and clarify the meaning of the names, places, and words found in the Bible. Many Christians and scholars who read the Bible often remain unawares of the meanings or significance of the Holy Book's vocabulary. Such words are often derived from Ancient Hebrew or other old scripts, which makes it even more difficult for readers who only speak English to understand. Location names, in the context of ancient geography, are likewise hard to scrutinize - yet Easton's Dictionary not only explains what these places are, but their size and overall impact across the entire Bible. First published in 1893, this dictionary uses the authoritative King James Bible as its source. As well as containing definitions and accounts of the many terms found throughout the Old and New Testaments, Easton's Bible Dictionary points out the significance of certain things and exactly where mentions of such phenomena appear in the Bible. The presence and significance of iron, for example, is noted in the Books of Genesis, Chronicles, Ezekiel, Deuteronomy, Isaiah, Job, Joshua, Kings and in the Psalms. Individuals in the Bible are also given biographical definitions. Through Easton's referencing of the names, we can discover the exact Bible passages where such figures are mentioned. Likewise we hear of terms relevant to the life of the ancient peoples; the term 'Levy' for instance is shown to equate to a form of involuntary recruitment which kings ordered. Words in frequent use today, such as 'Schism', are also shown to originate from the Bible. Other words we use today - such as 'Teeth', are shown to have been informal terms: 'cleanness of teeth' in Amos 4:6 denotes an outbreak of famine, for example. Many of the parables and tales of the Bible are retold in abbreviated form in Easton's Bible Dictionary. These retold anecdotes reference other relevant passages, further evidencing how the various portions of the Bible are interconnected and related to one another. Such a style also gives this unconventional dictionary a flowing quality, making it easier for the reader to enjoy large tracts of this text without pause. The ancient world of the Biblical canon is given life and color by Easton's descriptions. Primarily however, Easton's masterwork is designed for reference. Yet it not only defines the individual entries, but places these entries in their proper context throughout both the Old and New Testaments. Owing to this wealth of information, the reader may perceive that Easton's Dictionary is not merely a book of definitions, but an authoritative and significant work of classic Christian literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel of Matthew presents the Lord Jesus Christ as the long-prophesied King of God's promised kingdom. THE KING OF THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN is a verse-by-verse commentary of Matthew's Gospel, written from a dispensational, premillennial perspective that is essential to correctly understand God's prophetic kingdom program. This thorough commentary traces the theme of Christ's kingship from His royal virgin birth, through His authoritative teaching and sign miracles, to His sacrificial death, bodily resurrection, and commission to His disciples. The author holds the text of Matthew's Gospel in highest regard as the inspired Word of God. He balances practical application with scholarly attention to the details of historical background, grammar, and word meaning. Readers of this commentary will gain greater insight into the earthly life, ministry, and mission of the King and His coming kingdom. Dr. Thomas O. Figart served for thirty-eight years on the faculty of Lancaster Bible College in various roles, including Distinguished Professor, Chair of the Biblical Division, Academic Dean, and Interim President. He currently resides in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he continues to teach the Word of God. An undergraduate of Johns Hopkins University (B.S.), Figart also holds a Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary and a Th.D. from Grace Theological Seminary. He is also the author of MEANINGFUL MEDITATIONS: A WORD STUDY OF PSALM 119.

Alan Streett exposes half-truths about the kingdom that many believers have unwittingly accepted. He contrasts these with the testimony of Scripture: Jesus inaugurated the kingdom of God on the earth—it has already begun. As ambassadors of the kingdom, we are to fulfill our responsibilities and enjoy its benefits here and now. Salvation does not culminate with the soul escaping the body and living forever in heaven. Our bodies will eventually be transformed, and we will live with God on a restored earth. The church is like an embassy of heaven in a foreign country. In their life together, believers demonstrate kingdom realities to the world. Readers will find hope and direction in this fresh presentation of the historic teaching on the kingdom.

It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” —Matthew 13:31–32 When Jesus began his ministry, he announced that the kingdom of God was at hand. But many modern-day Christians don’t really understand what the kingdom of God is or how it relates to the message of the gospel. Defining kingdom as the King’s power over the King’s people in the King’s place, Patrick Schreiner investigates the key events, prophecies, and passages of Scripture that highlight the important theme of kingdom across the storyline of the Bible—helping readers see how the mission of Jesus and the coming of the kingdom fit together. Part of the Short Studies in Biblical Theology series.
