Everyone knows that love is blind, but even Riona Dade knows it's supposed to be with a mortal. That's true even if you are a witch with the ability to magically slay the scum of Hell. But when you find out your ex-boyfriend was a demon, you should probably take your lesson about falling for the wrong guy. Probably. It's a great theory, anyway. But if there's one thing Riona can do well, it's picking the wrong guy. With the help of Greek Gods, practical joke-loving archangels, and her fellow Pure Souls, Riona faces down challenge after challenge, both to her heart and to her head. Seems the reluctant witch plays a key part in a prophecy, one that has her pitted against the Devil at every turn. The Devil isn't quite what he used to be, though, and by the time Riona is through, neither one of them will be the same again. Download or read book Two Women written by Christene Browne and published by Second Story Press. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bernice Archer has raised her blind twin daughters, Eva and Ava, in the relative isolation of their low-income downtown neighborhood. Every night Bernice tells her daughters the same bedtime stories; stories that are sometimes magical, and often cautionary, about the dangers of the world outside the walls of their small apartment. Eva and Ava, now middle-aged, still wait for their motherÕs stories with a combination of excitement and suspicion, knowing that there is much they havenÕt been told. They are particularly mistrustful of BerniceÕs warnings of the dangers of the opposite sex, and want to know more about the story of their own origins. As loving as she is loud and as full of secrets as she is of stories, Bernice is the centre of the universe for Eva and Ava, even as they yearn for freedom and experiences of their own. When Bernice notices two new neighbours in their building, she is inspired to tell a new story. And so begins the saga of Violet and Rose. Bernice believes that these two women were born at the exact same moment, hemispheres apart, and that they share the same soul. Like Eva and Ava, the reader is swept along in the wake of Bernice's stories, not knowing what is real and what is fantasy, but believing none the less.

Book Synopsis Exploration and Meaning Making in the Learning of Science by : Bernard Zubrowski
Download or read book Exploration and Meaning Making in the Learning of Science written by Bernard Zubrowski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-08-14 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mountaineers, Rock Climbers, and Science Educators Around the 1920s, rock climbing separated from mountaineering to become a separate sport. At that time European climbers developed new equipment and techniques, enabling them to ascend mountain faces and to climb rocks, which were considered unassailable up to that time. American climbers went further by expanding and improving on the equipment. They even developed a system of quantification where points were given for the degree of difficulty of an ascent. This system focused primarily on the pitch of the mountain, and it even calculated up to de- mals to give a high degree of quantification. Rock climbing became a technical system. Csikszentmihaly (1976) observed that the sole interest of rock climbers at that time was to climb the rock. Rock climbers were known to reach the top and not even glance around at the scenery. The focus was on reaching the top of the rock. In contrast, mountaineers saw the whole mountain as a single “unit of perc- tion. ” “The ascent (to them) is a gestalt including the aesthetic, historical, personal and physical sensations” (Csikszentmihaly, 1976, p. 486). This is an example of two contrasting approaches to the same kind of landscape and of two different groups of people. Interestingly, in the US, Europe, and Japan a large segment of the early rock climbers were young mathematicians and theoretical physicists, while the mountaineers were a more varied lot.
