Book Synopsis Chinese History and Literature by : J. Prusek
Download or read book Chinese History and Literature written by J. Prusek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1970-12-31 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The studies contained in this volume arose over the last thirty years. Originally the range of the materials I intended to include in my selection was very much wider. Publishing difficulties, however, have obliged me to curtail them to something less than half the planned content. At first I intended to include all the studies I supposed might be of interest to readers and represent contributi ons still of some significance for research in this domain of Oriental scholarship. When the necessity arose to limit the contents I gave preference to the standpoint of thematic completeness rather than to what would be of interest to the general reader. Thus in this volume I have confined myself to two them atic fields only-Old Chinese literature and studies dealing with mediaeval storytellers' productions-hua-pen. I have excluded the whole complex of historical studies and all studies relating to the new literature. I am now preparing, on the principal historical theme on which I was engaged already in the period of my studies in Prague under Prof. J. Bidlo, and then in 1928 till 1930, with Prof. B. Karlgren in Sweden and Prof. G. Haloun in Halle, in Germany, a more compendious study in which I hope to sum up the results of my research, and I also intend to publish a volume of selected studies dealing with the New Chinese literature at some later date.

Book Synopsis The Chinese Literati on Painting by : Susan Bush
Download or read book The Chinese Literati on Painting written by Susan Bush and published by Hong Kong University Press. This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic work, first published in 1971, explores the transition in painting styles from the late Sung period to the art of Yuan dynasty literati. Building on the pioneering work of Oswald Siren and James Cahill, Susan Bush’s investigations of painting done under the Chin dynasty confirmed the dominance of scholar-artists in the north and their gradual development of scholarly painting traditions, and a related study of Northern Sung writings showed that their theory was shaped as much by the views of their social class as by their artistic aims. Bush’s perspective on Sung scholars’ art and theory helps explain the emergence of literati painting as the main artistic tradition in Yuan times. Social history thus served to supplement an understanding of the evolution of artistic styles.

Download or read book My Painting Guidance written by John Diamond and published by Enhancement Books. This book was released on 2011-03-05 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I have for quite some time felt very strongly that my painting is guided. It always seemed not that I was doing it, but that it was being done through me.” Renowned healer Dr. John Diamond explores the influence of some of the spirit guides who have inspired his painting: Su Shih, a Chinese literatus of the Sung Dynasty; the great poet-painter Wang Wei; and the approach of the Japanese nanga school. A jewel among his writings, My Painting Guidance is not only compelling in its own right, but also offers a profoundly original statement about the very nature of the creative process.
