Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS work is a general introduction to Swaziland since its founding as the Swazi nation. Its boundaries during precolonial times extended far beyond the borders of the modern state of Swaziland and included large portions of modern South Africa. The book provides some details about the land, the history and the people of Swaziland today and how they live. It also focuses on Swaziland during the early years of independence and her place in the context of southern Africa and of Africa as a whole then and now. It may help stimulate interest in some people to learn more about the country and may be enough to satisfy the curiosity of others who only want to learn some basic facts about this nation.

Dwarfed by neighbouring South Africa, this tiny, landlocked nation punches well above its weight in terms of both nature and culture. Author Mike Unwin explores the excellent wildlife reserves and wild hiking trails offering waterfalls, rock art and prolific flora and birdlife, and introduces travellers to the country's rich and varied landscapes. His personal insights, together with colourful anecdotes provide entertaining insights, give an insider's perspective. He divides Swaziland into four distinct regions, with detailed maps and itineraries for timescales from one weekend to one month. It includes a practical guide to neighbouring attractions easily accessed from Swaziland, including Maputo (Mozambique) and the Kruger Park (South Africa), both less than one hour's drive away. The natural history section offers far greater detail and more accurate information than found elsewhere, drawing on the author's extensive insider knowledge and experience.

Book excerpt: Eswatini (in Swazi: eSwatini; in English: Eswatini), officially the Kingdom of Eswatini (in Swazi: Umbuso weSwatini; in English: Kingdom of Eswatini and formerly known as Swaziland, is a country in Southern Africa, bordered to the east by Mozambique and in all other directions across South Africa. Its capitals are Mebabane (administrative) and Lobamba (legislative). The country and its people take their names from Mswati II, a 19th-century king during whose reign the territory of Eswatini was expanded and unified. Africa in a nutshell. It may be a cliché but there is no better way to describe Eswatini (Swaziland). This tiny nation - one of Africa's last monarchies - packs in an extraordinary variety of rich experiences and activities. Nature lovers can track down rhinos in the wild lowveld or seek out rare birds in the rugged highveld. Historians can visit the world's oldest known mine or follow the colonial trail of the early settlers. And culture vultures can thrill to the Umhlanga and other festivals, as Eswatini celebrates its ancient traditions in spectacular style. Activities ranging from horse riding and river rafting to golf and thermal spas offer excitement and relaxation in equal measure. What's more, Eswatini is friendly, safe and so compact that nowhere is more than two hours' easy drive from the capital. So what are you waiting for? Africa's most perfectly formed nation offers you a warm Swazi welcome. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Treating bodies as more than discursive in social research can feel out of place in academia. As a result, embodiment studies remain on the outside of academic knowledge construction and critical scholarship. However, embodiment scholars suggest that investigations into the profound division created by privileging the mind-intellect over the body-spirit are integral to the project of decolonization. The field of embodiment theorizes bodies as knowledgeable in ways that include but are not solely cognitive. The contributors to this collection suggest developing embodied ways of teaching, learning, and knowing through embodied experiences such as yoga, mindfulness, illness, and trauma. Although the contributors challenge Western educational frameworks from within and beyond academic settings, they also acknowledge and draw attention to the incommensurability between decolonization and aspects of social justice projects in education. By addressing this tension ethically and deliberately, the contributors engage thoughtfully with decolonization and make a substantial, and sometimes unsettling, contribution to critical studies in education.
