Durch Darstellung von Informationen des Zusammenspiels von sozialen Medien, Selfies und Identität und über die virtuelle Selbstdarstellung wurde in Bezug auf die Ergebnisse der Interviews ein Fazit gezogen. Schlussfolgernd lässt sich sagen, dass Selfies Einfluss auf die Identitätsentwicklung junger Erwachsener haben können und zur Kommunikation dienen, jedoch durch Selbstinszenierung die Authentizität des Jugendlichen auf Netzwerken verloren geht.

Das Phänomen ist in unserer heutigen Gesellschaft so präsent, dass sich unter anderem Literatur und Musik damit auseinander setzen. In der Sphäre des Selfies zwischen der Selbstdarstellung und der Frage nach Schönheit, ist diese Arbeit zu verorten. Dabei wird der These nachgegangen, inwiefern das Selfie Mittel zur Selbstdarstellung ist und welche Rolle es bei der Entwicklung des jugendlichen Schönheitsideals spielt. Dabei stehen die sozialen Netzwerke als Publikationsplattform von Jugendlichen im Fokus der Analyse. Zur Darstellung und Begründung dieser These wird wie folgt vorgegangen: Am Anfang wird das Thema Schönheit und Schönheitsideale erläutert, wobei nicht nur das aktuelle Schönheitsbild von Gesellschaft und speziell der Zielgruppe der Jugendlichen untersucht, sondern auch ein historischer und kultureller Abriss unternommen wird, um der Frage nachzugehen, wie sich das Streben nach Schönheit entwickelt hat. Es folgt die Betrachtung von Social Media als Publikationsorgan und enorme Einflussgröße auf das jugendliche Leben. Hierbei werden vorab Angebotsformen und Funktionen von Social Media dargestellt, bevor konkret auf das Verhältnis von Jugend und sozialen Medien eingegangen wird. Auf den zwei Kapiteln von Schönheit und Social Media aufbauend, stellt sich konkret das Themengebiet Selfie dar, wobei immer wieder Bezüge zu den Grundlagenkapiteln hergestellt werden. Im dritten Kapitel wird das Selbstporträt zunächst, fernab der digitalen Zeit, in historischer Perspektive betrachtet. Es folgt die allgemeine Erläuterung zu Bildern in sozialen Netzwerken, bevor konkret die Selfies von Jugendlichen und ihren medialen Vorbildern analysiert werden. Abschließend wird kurz dargestellt, welche Rolle Selfies zwischen der Fremd-Beeinflussung und Selbstdarstellung einnehmen.

Wohl kaum ein Tag vergeht mehr, an dem Jugendliche nicht mit ihrem Smartphone beschäftigt sind. Denn mit diesem ist es möglich, ununterbrochen und ortsungebunden zu kommunizieren. Es ist wohl unumstritten das wichtigste Mediengerät unserer Zeit – und übt insbesondere unter Jugendlichen eine große Faszination aus. Die Ergebnisse der vom Medienpädagogischen Forschungsverbund Südwest durchgeführten „Jugend, Informationen, Medien“-Studien der vergangenen Jahre offerieren: Medien spielen für die Jugend von heute eine zentrale Rolle. Bereits seit mehreren Jahren sind Smartphones auf Platz eins der wichtigsten Mediengeräte. Es verwundert also nicht, dass im Jahr 2018 93% der Jugendlichen in Deutschland angaben, ein eigenes Smartphone zu besitzen. Und mit diesem können sie ihrer liebsten Beschäftigung nachgehen: Sich mithilfe vielfältiger Dienste und Funktionen virtuell mit ihren Freundinnen und Freunden austauschen. Soziale Medien ermöglichen ihnen nicht nur die Vernetzung untereinander, sondern bieten ihnen auch Möglichkeiten der Selbstdarstellung, um soziale Beziehungen gestalten zu können.

Diese Internetpersönlichkeiten lassen ihre Follower:innen scheinbar an fast jedem Aspekt ihres Alltags teilhaben. Die Arbeit untersucht, warum besonders Kinder und Jugendliche so stark in das Leben der Influencer:innen eingebunden sind und welchen sozialisierenden Einfluss diese haben könnten. Die letzte Arbeit fokussiert sich auf die Selbstdarstellung der Nutzer:innen in den Online-Netzwerken "Facebook" und "Instagram". Zunächst werden die Funktionen dieser Netzwerke zur Selbstdarstellung und Privatheitsregulierung vorgestellt. In einer abschließenden Diskussion wird die Frage "Verzicht auf Privatheit durch soziale Medien?" erörtert. Neu ist die Angewohnheit vieler Menschen, sich im Alltag zunehmend mit sozialen Medien zu befassen. Es wird von großen Chancen und der Nützlichkeit der verschiedenen Plattformen gesprochen. Dabei fällt die Konzentration auf Gefahren und Beeinflussungsmöglichkeiten meistens unter den Tisch. Daraus ergibt sich ein weiteres Problem der jungen Generation: Das zunehmende Leiden an Depressionen. Obwohl sich diese Störung immer mehr zur Volkskrankheit entwickelt, werden psychische Erkrankungen tabuisiert. Die Anerkennung von Depressionen als folgenschwere Krankheit wird, trotz vergleichbarer Erkankungshäufigkeit zu Krebs und Herzinfarkten, oftmals nicht ernst genommen. Zur Klärung der Fragestellung ist es zunächst notwendig, die Charakteristika der heutigen Generation zu beschreiben und klarstellen, wie diese im Kontext zur Selbstverwirklichung stehen. Eine weitere notwendige Grundlage zur Aufarbeitung der Stigmatisierung einer Depression stellt die Erörterung des Krankheitsbildes dar, da ein elementarer Zusammenhang zwischen sozialen Medien und der Präsentation der Symptome und Folgen dieser Krankheit besteht. Im Weiteren soll analysiert werden, wie soziale Medien funktionieren. Dies wird auf die Internetplattform "Tumblr" begrenzt, da dieses Netzwerk in der jungen Generation mit einem virtuellen Tagebuch gleichgestellt wird und demnach keine Zurückhaltung bei der Präsentation selbstverletzender Handlungen vorherrscht. Dem schließt sich der Schwerpunkt der Arbeit an: Die Herausarbeitung bildzentrierter Selbstdarstellungen nach dem Prinzip einer Schlagwortsuche auf "Tumblr". Um Zugriff auf diverse Beiträge zu erhalten, wurde ein Fakeprofil unter dem Namen „facharbeit2018“ erstellt. Mit dem Ziel der Herstellung eines Zusammenhangs zwischen der heutigen jungen Generation, den sozialen Medien und Depressionen ist die vorliegende Arbeit entstanden, die sich vor allem auf die Analyse sozialer Medien in Verbindung mit psychischen Erkrankungen stützt.

Book excerpt: Over the last three years Europe and North America have been hit by an unprecedented wave of terrorist attacks perpetrated by individuals motivated by jihadist ideology. Who are the individuals who have carried out these attacks? Were they born and raised in the West? Or were they an “imported threat”, refugees and migrants? How did they radicalize? Were they well educated and integrated, or social outcasts? Did they act alone? What were their connections to the Islamic State? The answers to these and other questions have large implications for our understanding of the threat facing us and, consequently, help us design sounder policy solutions built on empirical evidence. This study, the first of its kind, seeks to analyze the demographic profile, radicalization trajectories and connections to the Islamic State of all the individuals who have carried out attacks inspired by jihadist ideology in North America and Europe in the three years since the proclamation of the caliphate in June 2014.
