The average wind velocity this month to date, 837 miles, is the highest recorded any month since April, 1920. Precipitation in 1933 to date totals inch, with a total of inches since September 30. Trees which were planted this spring have been water 1 since planting. Wheat and rye, nhien looked reasonably healthy at the close of March, has deteriorated greatly. The majority of the plants on the A and B rye plots are dead, and A and B aheat plots are in critical condition. Arizona Cypress injured by hard freezes are slow in starting growth, and very probably several are dead, the others injured in varying degree. Apples and pears were in bloom April 14 when a temperature of 200 vas recorded. Apparently considerable damage was done, but many blooms appear to have survived. Uherries are now bearing a light crop of blooms. Soil bloving has been very severe this winter, and some weeks ago the surface bocaue so hard and dry that surface cultivation to further lessen bloving was impossible. The wast ten days some fields have been listed, but soil is dry nearly to the bottom oi lister furrow. Failure to list permit soil to blow unchecked, but conditions are very unfavorable for listing, la arge, hard clods turning up. Farmers have given up listing in despair, waiting for rain. Winter Wheat is trying to head at a height of 8 to 12 inches. Most of it is badly burned and even with the best of weather conditions from now on could hardly make an'average crop. Spring grains seeded on fallow or corn ground are still in good condition, but those seeded late or on spring or fall plowing are thin, weedy, and are beginning to fire. Alfalfa has reached a height of about U inches and is firing. Pastures are in very poor condition, many farmers complaining that their livestock are gradually starving on native grass. Native pastures on the station have made very little growth this season and are as brown as in mid-winter. Corn on the rotations has emerged to fair stands and was harrowed during the week. Maximum temperature 92, minimum 40, precipitation 4-9 inches. Edgeley: The dry weather was finally broken by rains occurring on the fifth, sixth and eighth of this month. The first was a slow rain of about 9 inches falling in a little over a day, all of it consequently going into the soil in good shape. The second, on Friday, was of a local nature and came in a quick dash. The grass and grain crops are showing a marked improvement over their condition during the last week, although the grain still seems to be growing very slowly. A week ago, a trip was made about twenty miles east of here, and it was noticed that the greater part of the fields showed the effects of a lack of moisture to a marked extent. There was a light shower accompanied by a smattering of hail on the afternoon of May 27. Since then it has been fairly windy and hot most of the time, so that soil moisture has been dissipated rather rapidly, and where wet soil has been turned up it has baked hard. Rain has threatened nearly every day. The sorghums were planted May 29. The soil was in ideal condition. On the surface planted plots the seed seems to be germinating, but on the listed plots the soil has dried out in the seed bed in many places and the seed is in dry ground, unsprouted. The corn has been thinned and the alleys cultivated. Some of the Spring small grains are beginning to head. They are still very short.
