Book Synopsis The Cambridge Guide to Mixed Methods Research for Theatre and Performance Studies by : Tracy C. Davis
Download or read book The Cambridge Guide to Mixed Methods Research for Theatre and Performance Studies written by Tracy C. Davis and published by . This book was released on 2024-01-31 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We often know performance when we see it - but how should we investigate it? And how should we interpret what we find out? This book demonstrates why and how mixed methods research is necessary for investigating and explaining performance and advancing new critical agendas in cultural study. The wide range of aesthetic forms, cultural meanings, and social functions found in theatre and performance globally invites a corresponding variety of research approaches. The essays in this volume model reflective consideration of the means, processes, and choices for conducting performance research that is historical, ethnographic, aesthetic, or computational. An international set of contributors address what is meant by planning or designing a research project, doing research (locating and collecting primary sources or resources), and the ensuing work of interpreting and communicating insights. Providing illuminating and necessary guidance, this volume is an essential resource for scholars and students of theatre, performance, and dance.

Book Synopsis Weaving Sacred Stories by : Laura Weigert
Download or read book Weaving Sacred Stories written by Laura Weigert and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spanning the backs of choir stalls above the heads of the canons and their officials, large-scale tapestries of saints' lives functioned as both architectural elements and pictorial narratives in the late Middle Ages. In an extensively illustrated book that features sixteen color plates, Laura Weigert examines the role of these tapestries in ritual performances. She situates individual tapestries within their architectural and ceremonial settings, arguing that the tapestries contributed to a process of storytelling in which the clerical elite of late medieval cities legitimated and defended their position in the social sphere.Weigert focuses on three of the most spectacular and little-studied tapestry series preserved from the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries: Lives of Saints Piat and Eleutherius (Notre-Dame, Tournai), Life of Saint Steven (Saint-Steven, Auxerre [now Musée du Moyen Age, Paris]), and Life of Saints Gervasius and Protasius (Saint-Julien, Le Mans). Each of these tapestries, measuring over forty meters in length, included elements that have traditionally been defined as either lay or clerical. On the prescribed days when the tapestries were displayed, the liturgical performance for which they were the setting sought to merge the history and patron saint of the local community with the universal history of the Christian church. Weigert combines a detailed analysis of the narrative structure of individual images with a discussion of the particular social circumstances in which they were produced and perceived. Weaving Sacred Stories is thereby significant not only to the history of medieval art but also to art history and cultural studies in general.
Book Synopsis Mechanics of Fiber and Textile Reinforced Cement Composites by : Barzin Mobasher
Download or read book Mechanics of Fiber and Textile Reinforced Cement Composites written by Barzin Mobasher and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2011-09-20 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among all building materials, concrete is the most commonly used—and there is a staggering demand for it. However, as we strive to build taller structures with improved seismic resistance or durable pavement with an indefinite service life, we require materials with better performance than the conventional materials used today. Considering the enormous investment in public infrastructure and society’s need to sustain it, the need for new and innovative materials for the repair and rehabilitation of civil infrastructure becomes more evident. These improved properties may be defined in terms of carbon footprint, life-cycle cost, durability, corrosion resistance, strength, ductility, and stiffness. Addressing recent trends and future directions, Mechanics of Fiber and Textile Reinforced Cement Composites presents new opportunities for developing innovative and cost-effective materials and techniques in cement and concrete composites manufacturing, testing, and design. The book offers mathematical models, experimental results, and computational algorithms for efficient designs with fiber and textile reinforced composite systems. It explores alternative solutions using blended cements, innovative reinforcing systems, natural fibers, experimental characterization of key parameters used for design, and optimized designs. Each chapter begins with a detailed introduction, supplies a thorough overview of the existing literature, and sets forth the reasoning behind the experimentation and theory. Documenting the composite action of fibers and textiles, the book develops and explains methods for manufacturing and testing cement composites. Methods to design and analyze structures for reduced weight, increased durability, and minimization of cement use are also examined. The book demonstrates that using a higher volume fraction of fiber systems can result in composites that are quasi-elastic plastic. Speaking to the need to optimize structural performance and sustainability in construction, this comprehensive and cohesive reference requires readers to rethink the traditional design and manufacturing of reinforced concrete structures.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Constructionist Research by : James A. Holstein
Download or read book Handbook of Constructionist Research written by James A. Holstein and published by Guilford Press. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 833 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Constructionism has become one of the most popular research approaches in the social sciences. But until now, little attention has been given to the conceptual and methodological underpinnings of the constructionist stance, and the remarkable diversity within the field. This cutting-edge handbook brings together a dazzling array of scholars to review the foundations of constructionist research, how it is put into practice in multiple disciplines, and where it may be headed in the future. The volume critically examines the analytic frameworks, strategies of inquiry, and methodological choices that together form the mosaic of contemporary constructionism, making it an authoritative reference for anyone interested in conducting research in a constructionist vein.
Book Synopsis Indonesia's Industrial Transformation by : Hal Hill
Download or read book Indonesia's Industrial Transformation written by Hal Hill and published by Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. This book was released on 1997 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous nation, has experienced a remarkable economic transformation over the past 30 years. In the mid 1960s it was one of the poorest countries in the developing world, but by the 1990s it had joined the group of Asian 'tiger' economies. This set of essays examines the record of industrialization, which has been central to Indonesia's rapid development. Successive sections provide an overview of the industrialization process, case studies of selected industries, the contribution of foreign investment and technological development, the role of small-medium industry, and a range of industrial policy issues. Drawing on the country's much improved statistical base, this empirically oriented volume highlights both the achievements of the 'New Order' regime and the many challenges which lie ahead.
