Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biblical stories of Lot’s daughters, Tamar, Ruth and Bathsheba, share much in common – singular women who are left to rely upon their own wits to achieve some measure of victory over the men around them. Scholarly interpretation of these women often reduces them to mere stock characters who inform civic notions about Israel, the perennial underdog who, like these women, achieves against great odds. Or, they reflect the trickery and moral ambiguity inherent in their line as ancestresses of the House of David. However, when read for their gender information (and not for what they can tell readers about Israel), one finds women who employ strategies of deception and trickery, motivated by individual self-interest, in order to successfully maneuver within the system to their benefit. Such initiative can be seen as valorous: they save themselves through their own pluck and ingenuity. Thus, a close consideration of these stories finds that heroic biblical women carry their essential weapons upon and within themselves in their drive, their resolve and their cleverness. Using methods from biblical study as well as folklore, this study identifies biblical women motivated by self-interest coupled with deception and an incidence of the “bedtrick,” an instance of sexual trickery that challenges the text’s power and gender dynamics. This identification puts Lot’s daughters, Tamar, Ruth and Bathsheba, in league with female heroes from folk tale and legend. By contrasting and comparing common motifs and actions with traits established by other non-biblical female heroic narratives, strong heroic themes are located in all four narratives. This offers a dynamic argument for identifying the female biblical heroic. This work concludes that this new identification of heroic women in the Bible profoundly affects further interpretation of the Bible.

Book excerpt: Long Description A hundred thousand years ago the immortal commander of the Malakim’s galactic defense fleet, fighting to protect the planets of this dimension from an invasion force, was turned into stone and plummeted to earth. Unable to use his immortal powers to free himself he must wait through the eons until a human is born with enough unconditional love and compassion to form a mystical bond with him and free him. The prophecy of a young immortal boy is his only hope "The heart of stone by love be free." In the meantime his enemy, the Din, have established themselves on the planet he sought to save. Possibly the oversouls of dinosaurs, they have demonic powers to possess another being by inhabiting their aura. They've built themselves a global economic empire, living in comfort at the expense of those they've enslaved. The story does not belong to any one genre. It mixes mythology, paranormal romance, conspiracy, sci-fi adventure and is a light-hearted introduction into non-dual consciousness. One reader called the adventure "an expansive swirl of fantasy, sci-fi inter galactic battles, new age mysticism and more than a little in the way of lusty encounters involving a vastly experienced, endowed, ageless shape shifting spirit being and an initially sedate...librarian." Tyra, the librarian, is called in to view the remains of her uncle who seems to have been slaughtered by a wild beast. She finds out that she belongs to one of the guardian families and has a prophecy to fulfill. She's worked for years at her desk in the city's library. Haunted by dreams of an alien warrior and a mysterious sage she's never been interested in having an intimate relationship. Now she must learn enough about tantra to free her destined mate and enough of martial arts to survive until she does, cross more than a few taboo boundaries along the way. Some bondage scenes, neo-tantra and menage sex. This is the first book in the series called Left hand adventures. Lefthand Adventures is the business Simon trades under in Heart of Stone, until he sets up his new security firm. Lefthand also designates one of the many spiritual evolutionary paths the Malakim follow. Simon follows left hand path, using ecstatic experiences and shamanic practices. Whereas Thex follows the warrior’s path of justice and the protection of the innocent. Tyra adopts the middle path of love and compassion but that doesn’t exclude her from learning the ways of ecstasy or becoming a warrior in her own right. Other books in the series so far are A Lick of Immortality (Book 2) which focuses on John, Sally and Arion’s stories. Trust and Destiny (Book 3) is Michael, Sarah and Kiana’s story.

Book excerpt: The war against The Blight is over, and the subterranean realms of Nulapeiron have a chance for peace. But Tom Corcorigan, revolutionary and war hero, newly married and longing for the quiet life, knows that a greater force threatens his world: the planet-consuming Anomaly, which has absorbed billions of humans and alien beings into itself. Tom's association with the disembodied Eemur's Head, the flensed and bloody remains of a powerful Seer, changes him into something more than a poverty-stricken Lord. The spacetime-warping science of Seers and Oracles penetrates the heart of reality, bringing new enemies and allies into Tom's life. And his "story crystal," a gift from a mysterious mu-space Pilot, reveals more of the Pilots' history and true nature, and the existence of their home in a universe no ordinary human being can experience: the strange, shifting, living fractal city that is Labyrinth. Soon the Anomaly, an evil far more powerful than its offspring Blight, rips into the world, decimating the human realms. Among the free humans who survive in the floating terraformer spheres of Nulapeiron's skies, only the forces commanded by Tom Corcorigan have a chance against this omnipotent invader. For only a Warlord who is no longer human, who is willing to sacrifice everything, can deliver humanity from darkness. Resolution concludes the trilogy of Nulapeiron tales featuring Tom Corcorigan, bringing the story to a triumphant climax and revealing the devastating secret of the Oracles' creation.

Now decades later, the last remaining humans are struggling to survive in a dying city as resources and hope dwindle.Vanguard Maria Martinez has lived her whole life within the towering walls of steel. She yearns for a life away from the overcrowded streets, rolling blackouts, and food shortages, but there is no hope for anyone as long as the Inferi Scourge howl outside the high walls. Her only refuge from the daily grind is in the arms of her lover, Dwayne Reichardt, an officer in the Bastion Constabulary. Both are highly-decorated veterans of the last disastrous push against the Inferi Scourge. Their secret affair is her only happiness. Then one day Maria is summoned to meet with a mysterious representative from the Science Warfare Division and is offered the opportunity to finally destroy the Inferi Scourge in the valley and close the gate. For most of that time she was unaware of Satan’s most formidable weapon used against Christians - Fiery Darts. Since becoming aware of this weapon, Satan’s motives for using it, and how to wield the power of God’s Word against it, Janet’s release from years of captivity has been wondrously secured. Most people agree that negative thinking can have a debilitating effect on a person’s life. But just knowing this does little to help combat such thinking. By comparing negative thinking to the weapon of fiery darts, Janet exposes the weapon and the tactics used by Satan to manipulate. After the weapon and its tactics are exposed, detailed instructions are given as to how to counter-attack and live life free from the bondage negative thinking can impose.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Invigorating . . . Gardeła reappraises the connections between women and violence in an early-medieval society that has left few texts to guide us.” —Studies in Late Antiquity This book sets out to investigate the idea of “the armed woman” in the Viking Age through a comprehensive and cross-cultural approach and weaves a nuanced picture of women’s lives in the Viking world. The Viking Age (c. AD 750–1050) is conventionally portrayed as a tumultuous time when hordes of fierce warriors from Scandinavia wreaked havoc across the European continent and when Norse merchants traveled to distant corners of the world in pursuit of slaves, silver and exotic commodities. Until fairly recently, Norse society during this pivotal period in world history has been characterized as male-dominated, with women’s roles dismissed or substantially downplayed. There is, however, ample textual and archaeological evidence to suggest that many of the most spectacular achievements of Viking Age Scandinavians—in craftsmanship, exploration, cross-cultural trade, warfare and other spheres of life—would not have been possible without the active involvement of women, and that, both within the walls of the household and in the wider public arena, women’s voices were heard, respected and followed. Lavishly illustrated, this pioneering book explores the stories of the female warrior and women’s links with the martial sphere of life in the Viking Age, using literature and archaeological evidence from Scandinavia and the wider Viking world to examine the motivations and circumstances that led women to engage in armed conflict.
