In those days, we both taught at San Antonio College. He taught English and I taught Economics. His office was on the 5th floor of the Moody Learning Center and mine was on the 7th. As soon as I finished a poem, if I felt it was worthy of him, I would run down the stairwell two floors and let him read it. In general, he said the style of my poetry reminded him of Emily Dickinson. I was so astonished by the comment that I never asked him to explain.
