Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chief economist for the World Bank's Africa region, Shanta Devarajan, delivered a devastating assessment of the capacity of African states to measure development in his 2013 article "Africa's Statistical Tragedy". Is there a "statistical tragedy" unfolding in Africa now? If so then examining the roots of the problem of provision of statistics in poor economies is certainly of great importance. This book on measuring African development in the past and in the present draws on the historical experience of colonial French West Africa, Ghana, Sudan, Mauritania and Tanzania and the more contemporary experiences of Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The authors each reflect on the changing ways statistics represent African economies and how they are used to govern them. This bookw as published as a special issue of the Canadian Journal of Development Studies.

Book Synopsis Interstate Planning for Regional Water Supply and Pollution Control by : Delaware River Basin Commission
Download or read book Interstate Planning for Regional Water Supply and Pollution Control written by Delaware River Basin Commission and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of a study of the problem of water supply and waste disposal in the three-State, six-county region in which the Tocks Island Reservoir and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area are being developed. Peak summer populations are projected over a 50-year period and utilities systems alternatives which could accommodate such projected growth are presented in the report. Water supplies in the region are seen as adequate to meet future demands, with heavy emphasis on development of groundwater resources. Five alternative sewerage plans, ranging in degree of regionalization from 116 local treatment systems to a single system for the entire region, are outlined including detailed cost estimates. Preservation of water quality in the region is a primary objective of the study.

This book was released on 2017-12-14 with total page 1360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The clinical approaches to the chronic degenerative diseases that drain our resources, and compromise our well-being, have become almost exclusively symptom-focused. The common wisdom is that they are idiopathic with final outcomes to be managed rather than prevented or cured. That they are potentially reversible rarely enters any discussion between doctor and patient. Reversibility of Chronic Disease and Hypersensitivity, Volume 5: Treatment Options of Chemical Sensitivity, the final volume of this set, offers a much different perspective on chronic degenerative disease; one that disputes the idiopathic label attached to most, as well as the usual fatalistic prognosis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 2022 Choice Reviews Outstanding Academic Title Negotiating Patriarchy and Gender in Africa: Discourses, Practices, and Policies examines the entrenchment of patriarchy in Africa and its attendant socioeconomic and political consequences on gender relations. The contributors analyze the historical and modern ways in which gender expectations have enabled women in African societies to be systematically abused and marginalized, from unpaid labor to poor representation in decision-making areas. Exploring regions such as rural Uganda, the suburbs of Zimbabwe, the Gold Coast, South Africa, and Nigeria, contributors incorporate a wide range of academic theories and disciplines to establish the need for improved policy implementation on gender issues at both the local and national government levels in Africa.
