Book Synopsis Extensions and Absolutes of Hausdorff Spaces by : Jack R. Porter
Download or read book Extensions and Absolutes of Hausdorff Spaces written by Jack R. Porter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 869 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An extension of a topological space X is a space that contains X as a dense subspace. The construction of extensions of various sorts - compactifications, realcompactifications, H-elosed extension- has long been a major area of study in general topology. A ubiquitous method of constructing an extension of a space is to let the "new points" of the extension be ultrafilters on certain lattices associated with the space. Examples of such lattices are the lattice of open sets, the lattice of zero-sets, and the lattice of elopen sets. A less well-known construction in general topology is the "absolute" of a space. Associated with each Hausdorff space X is an extremally disconnected zero-dimensional Hausdorff space EX, called the Iliama absolute of X, and a perfect, irreducible, a-continuous surjection from EX onto X. A detailed discussion of the importance of the absolute in the study of topology and its applications appears at the beginning of Chapter 6. What concerns us here is that in most constructions of the absolute, the points of EX are certain ultrafilters on lattices associated with X. Thus extensions and absolutes, although very different, are constructed using similar tools.

Book Synopsis Positive Operators and Semigroups on Banach Lattices by : C.B. Huijsmans
Download or read book Positive Operators and Semigroups on Banach Lattices written by C.B. Huijsmans and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last twenty-five years, the development of the theory of Banach lattices has stimulated new directions of research in the theory of positive operators and the theory of semigroups of positive operators. In particular, the recent investigations in the structure of the lattice ordered (Banach) algebra of the order bounded operators of a Banach lattice have led to many important results in the spectral theory of positive operators. The contributions contained in this volume were presented as lectures at a conference organized by the Caribbean Mathematics Foundation, and provide an overview of the present state of development of various areas of the theory of positive operators and their spectral properties. This book will be of interest to analysts whose work involves positive matrices and positive operators.

Book Synopsis Frequency-domain Methods For Nonlinear Analysis: Theory And Applications by : Gennady A Leonov
Download or read book Frequency-domain Methods For Nonlinear Analysis: Theory And Applications written by Gennady A Leonov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-05-09 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the investigation of global attractors of nonlinear dynamical systems. The exposition proceeds from the simplest attractor of a single equilibrium to more complicated ones, i.e. to finite, denumerable and continuum equilibria sets; and further, to cycles, homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits; and finally, to strange attractors consisting of irregular unstable trajectories. On the complicated equilibria sets, the methods of Lyapunov stability theory are transferred. They are combined with stability techniques specially elaborated for such sets. The results are formulated as frequency-domain criteria. The methods connected with the theorems of existence of cycles and homoclinic orbits are developed. The estimates of Hausdorff dimensions of attractors are presented.

Book Synopsis Ordered Algebraic Structures by : Jorge Martínez
Download or read book Ordered Algebraic Structures written by Jorge Martínez and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the 28th of February through the 3rd of March, 2001, the Department of Math ematics of the University of Florida hosted a conference on the many aspects of the field of Ordered Algebraic Structures. Officially, the title was "Conference on Lattice Ordered Groups and I-Rings", but its subject matter evolved beyond the limitations one might associate with such a label. This volume is officially the proceedings of that conference, although, likewise, it is more accurate to view it as a complement to that event. The conference was the fourth in wh at has turned into aseries of similar conferences, on Ordered Algebraic Structures, held in consecutive years. The first, held at the University of Florida in Spring, 1998, was a modest and informal affair. The fifth is in the final planning stages at this writing, for March 7-9, 2002, at Vanderbilt University. And although these events remain modest and reasonably informal, their scope has broadened, as they have succeeded in attracting mathematicians from other, related fields, as weIl as from more distant lands.
