Book excerpt: In the Western church, our experience with the Holy Spirit ranges from untethered emotionalism to impersonal intellectualism—but He is neither untethered nor impersonal. The Holy Spirit is the trustworthy third person of the Trinity, and His power is essential to all life transformation and ministry fruitfulness. In Spirit Walk (Special Edition), Steve Smith lays out a biblical framework for understanding the Holy Spirit‘s work, knowing Him intimately, and being filled with His power to accomplish His purposes. The extraordinary power we see at work in Acts is still available to every believer today, whether you need a movement of God in your personal life or in your ministry. We need only believe what the word of God says and put it into practice! Spirit Walk: Study Guide is designed for either individual or small group use. In eight sessions of five days each, it guides you through the process of digesting biblical paradigms, surrendering to the Holy Spirit, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and cultivating an authentic relationship with Him. Along the way you will learn practices and rhythms for long-term spiritual growth. Become a doer of the Word as you engage in this study, and join believers who have gone before you to discover the biblical path of the Spirit Walk.

Book excerpt: Christian liberty. This phrase is not a pass to do whatever one pleases, but neither is pleasing God a list of dos and don'ts. Instead, Christian liberty is the power to serve God and others with joy. In this study of Galatians 5, Pettit demonstrates what it looks like to live out Christian liberty and helps believers discover the joy God desires for those who will walk with him daily. When this liberty is properly understood and enjoyed, it produces a joyful transformation into the likeness of Christ. Walking in the Spirit is the only way to live the Christian life, and nothing else works! - Back cover.

Book Synopsis Walking in the Spirit to Abundant to Abundant Life by : David Bartholdi
Download or read book Walking in the Spirit to Abundant to Abundant Life written by David Bartholdi and published by Trilogy Christian Publishing. This book was released on 2019-12-09 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do some Christians seem to be more blessed than others? Some seem to live a much more abundant and healthier life than I do. These are the questions I asked God for years until I gained more knowledge and understanding of Scripture. Walking in the Spirit to Abundant Life is the truth that set me free from religious bondage and the bondage of sinful living. Christians have a choice. We can either walk in Spirit that is provided through the power of Holy Spirit, or we can walk in the flesh and be controlled by our five senses. Knowing your identity in Christ and your authority in Christ will always cause us to walk in the Spirit. Knowing that I am no longer a sinner, but a son of God changes the way I think, and this knowledge changes the way I live. Sinners will always live in sin. Jesus came to save sinners and make them sons of God. A son of God is righteous because God, our Father, Jesus our Lord, and Holy Spirit lives in sons of God. When a person understands this truth, they will live righteously and holy.

Book Synopsis Thoreau’s Democratic Withdrawal by : Shannon L. Mariotti
Download or read book Thoreau’s Democratic Withdrawal written by Shannon L. Mariotti and published by Univ of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 2010-01-21 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Best known for his two-year sojourn at Walden Pond in Massachusetts, Henry David Thoreau is often considered a recluse who emerged from solitude only occasionally to take a stand on the issues of his day. In Thoreau’s Democratic Withdrawal, Shannon L. Mariotti explores Thoreau’s nature writings to offer a new way of understanding the unique politics of the so-called hermit of Walden Pond. Drawing imaginatively from the twentieth-century German social theorist Theodor W. Adorno, she shows how withdrawal from the public sphere can paradoxically be a valuable part of democratic politics. Separated by time, space, and context, Thoreau and Adorno share a common belief that critical inquiry is essential to democracy but threatened by modern society. While walking, huckleberrying, and picking wild apples, Thoreau tries to recover the capacities for independent perception and thought that are blunted by “Main Street,” conventional society, and the rapidly industrializing world that surrounded him. Adorno’s thoughts on particularity and the microscopic gaze he employs to work against the alienated experience of modernity help us better understand the value of Thoreau’s excursions into nature. Reading Thoreau with Adorno, we see how periodic withdrawals from public spaces are not necessarily apolitical or apathetic but can revitalize our capacity for the critical thought that truly defines democracy. In graceful, readable prose, Mariotti reintroduces us to a celebrated American thinker, offers new insights on Adorno, and highlights the striking common ground they share. Their provocative and challenging ideas, she shows, still hold lessons on how we can be responsible citizens in a society that often discourages original, critical analysis of public issues.
