Sie werden in drei Teilbänden erscheinen: Im ersten werden insgesamt sieben Nachschriften zu Hegels "Vorlesungen über die Philosophie der Natur" in den Wintersemestern 1819/20, 1821/22 und 1823/24 veröffentlicht. Für die Dokumentation des ersten Kollegs wurde die Nachschrift von Johann Rudolf Ringier gewählt (mit Varianten aus der Nachschrift von Gottfried Bernhardy), für das zweite Kolleg die Nachschrift von Boris von Uexküll (mit Varianten aus zwei anonymen Nachschriften) und für das dritte Kolleg die Nachschrift von Karl Gustav Julius von Griesheim (mit Varianten aus der Nachschrift von Romuald Hube). Damit dokumentiert dieser Band Hegels Ausarbeitung der Naturphilosophie auf der Grundlage der ersten Auflage der "Enzyklopädie" (1817) und ermöglicht hierdurch ein zuverlässiges Verständnis seiner Naturphilosophie. Im zweiten Teilband werden vier weitere Nachschriften folgen. Der dritte Teilband wird den Editorischen Bericht und die Kommentierung enthalten.

Book excerpt: Violence and Messianism looks at how some of the figures of the so-called Renaissance of "Jewish" philosophy between the two world wars - Franz Rosenzweig, Walter Benjamin and Martin Buber - grappled with problems of violence, revolution and war. At once inheriting and breaking with the great historical figures of political philosophy such as Kant and Hegel, they also exerted considerable influence on the next generation of European philosophers, like Lévinas, Derrida and others. This book aims to think through the great conflicts in the past century in the context of the theory of catastrophe and the beginning of new messianic time. Firstly, it is a book about means and ends – that is, about whether good ends can be achieved through bad means. Second, it is a book about time: peace time, war time, time it takes to transfer from war to peace, etc. Is a period of peace simply a time that excludes all violence? How long does it take to establish peace (to remove all violence)? Building on this, it then discusses whether there is anything that can be called messianic acting. Can we – are we capable of, or allowed to – act violently in order to hasten the arrival of the Messiah and peace? And would we then be in messianic time? Finally, how does this notion of messianism – a name for a sudden and unpredictable event – fit in, for example, with our contemporary understanding of terrorist violence? The book attempts to understand such pressing questions by reconstructing the notions of violence and messianism as they were elaborated by 20th century Jewish political thought. Providing an important contribution to the discussion on terrorism and the relationship between religion and violence, this book will appeal to theorists of terrorism and ethics of war, as well as students and scholars of Philosophy, Jewish studies and religion studies.

Book excerpt: Kant, in the Critique of pure reason, only dedicates a few pages to the principle of Anticipations of Perception and only a few critical studies are outspokenly dedicated to this issue in recent critical literature. But if one considers the history of post-Kantian philosophy, one can immediately perceive the great importance of the new definition of the relationship between reality and negation, which Kant’s principle proposes. Critical philosophy is here radically opposed to the pre-critical metaphysical tradition: "Reality" no longer appears as absolutely positive being, which excludes all negativity from itself, and "negation" is not reduced to being a simple removal, the mere absence of being. Instead, reality and negation behave as an equally positive something in respect to one another such that negation is itself a reality that is actively opposed to another reality. Such a definition of the relation between reality and negation became indispensible for post-Kantian Philosophy and represents a central aspect of Kantian-inspired philosophy in respect to Leibnizian metaphysics. The present work therefore departs from the hypothesis that the essential philosophical importance of the Anticipations of Perception can only be fully measured by exploring its impact in the Post-Kantian debate.
