Data was collected via an online questionnaire and the study design mixed methods with an emphasis on the qualitative data. The study sample included eighty students/alumni from thirty-two Christian colleges/universities. Generally, respondents felt lonely, hid their sexuality, and reported a negative campus climate. Recommendations from respondents include: institutional policies must be clearer and applied consistently, improve campus climate, and form support groups for LGB and SSA students.

I could have written about the act and changed my name. I didn't ever want to do that, I wanted everyone to see a person who is here and now. I wanted to show everyone the damage and destruction involved in abuse. I want to show my painful journey in its raw form. It is my eyes on the front cover of my book. I am the little girl on the front cover. This was about the age that my abuse started, and it is my picture on the back cover. It makes it so much more personal and has a bigger impact when you can identify a face to the pain. I have no shame and I will always put my name and face to any aspect of this subject.
