Book excerpt: This short introduction conveys the complexities associated with the term "territory" in a clear and accessible manner. It surveys the field and brings theory to ground in the case of Palestine. A clear and accessible introduction to the complexities associated with the term "territory". Provides an interdisciplinary survey of the many strands of research in the field. Addresses specific areas including interpretations of territorial structures; the relationship between territoriality and scale; the validity and fluidity of territory; and the practical, social processes associated with territorial re-configurations. Stresses that our understanding of territory is inseparable from our understanding of power. Uses Israel/Palestine as an extended illustrative case study. The author’s strong legal and geographical background gives the work an authoritative perspective.

Among others, it has also helped create numerous institutes, publications and non-governmental organizations to bring together the scientific world. This publication offers an inside perspective on the past six decades of this engagement. The volume traces through six parts the role played by UNESCO in the history of international science cooperation in an ever-changing world: I. Setting the Scene, 1945-1965; II. Basic Sciences and Engineering; III. Environmental Sciences; IV. Science and Society; V. Overviews and Analyses; and VI. Looking Ahead. It also features a list of chronological milestones set along the way.--Publisher's description.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rosalind McKnight was one of the first, and most successful, researchers to work with Robert Monroe and The Monroe Institute in Virginia. She spent eleven years doing research in a laboratory setting. With the help of Monroe and his Hemi-Sync technology that put her into altered states of consciousness, she explored and reported on various levels of non-physical reality. Her first book, Cosmic Journeys, described a visitation that she had in her earlier life by an energy form that she calls Radiant Lady. When Radiant Lady first appeared forty years ago, she said nothing, leaving McKnight wondering about the purpose of her visit. In 2003, Radiant Lady suddenly reappeared, announcing to McKnight that they had a mission to accomplish together. Radiant Lady acts as "tour guide" into other dimensions where McKnight meets non-physical energies who share their own personal experiences of the dimensions which they inhabit. Written for every soul on the planet, these unforgettable adventures emphasize that all of us have angels and spirit guides waiting to help us discover the inner workings of the multiple worlds in which we exist and to which we will all one day journey.

Book excerpt: Explorers are known for the journeys they take. Rosie McKnight explored the vast nonphysical dimensions of consciousness. With famed out-of-body researcher Robert Monroe, she helped to further the understanding of human consciousness, and to demonstrate beyond doubt that we are more than our physical bodies. Many of these pioneering sessions are presented here almost word for word, as they were taped, along with her warm and inspiring observations of Bob Monroe and the early days of The Monroe Institute (TMI). Here are explorations of non-human energy systems, interactions with highly evolved beings, concepts about the makeup of the many levels of the universe, views of the afterlife and the animal dimensions, the nature of healing and guidance, a look at the future, and much more. Here is the pursuit of the true meaning of science fearlessly mapping wherever the inquisitive mind takes us. Through the courage of Rosie McKnight and other explorers at TMI, we are given, as Laurie Monroe writes in her introduction, "a clarity of perception and a sense of the greatness that is beyond our everyday life."

Book excerpt: This is the definitive story of the Iditarod, the dogsled race that has been run for over a century--told in brisk inviting stories and fully illustrated with color photographs, including updated information through the 2018 race. The famed 1000-mile dogsled race from Anchorage in Southeast Alaska to Nome on the Bering Sea is a test of endurance, both human and canine. The great history of the race has unfolded in the accounts of mushers and dog teams, fierce weather, accidents and good luck--with personalities like Joe Redington Sr., Rick Swenson, and Libby Riddles being joined by Lance Mackey, DeeDee Jonrowe, and Mitch & Dallas Seavey in recent years. The book is thoroughly illustrated with Jeff Schultz's photography, including coverage of the most recent runnings of the Iditarod.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spicilegium Floræ Maroccanæ The earliest notice that I have found of botanical research into the Marocco Flora is in the Istoria Botanica' of Zanoni (cura tor Of the Botanic Garden at Bologna), published in 1675. He had received plants and seeds from Tangier from a Mr. Alexander Balaam, who appears to have been a merchant trading with Tangier during some part of the time when that town was held by the Portuguese and the English. The next contribution, and amore considerable one, is contained in a list published (1696) in the 19th vol. Of the Philosophical Transactions (p. 239 et seq), but drawn up in 1673 by Mr. Spotswood, a surgeon who lived there during the English occupation, and gathered plants which he gave to the same Mr. Balaam and to Dr. Morison at Oxford There is some difficulty in identifying many of the species named; and I have not thought it worth while to cite the plants contained in Mr. Spotswood's list.
