Das politische Engagement der Frauen fand während ihres gesamten Kampfes um den Zugang zu Wohnraum statt: Landnahme, Organisation neuer Siedlungen und Erlangung des rechtlichen Eigentums an ihren Grundstücken. Die individuellen und kollektiven Erfahrungen der Frauen zeigen daher einen dynamischen Prozess der politischen Subjektwerdung, der auf dem Anspruch "ein Stück Land für die Familie" basiert.

Seen in another way, the poverty in Latin America increased in that period of 20 years, from 1970 to 1990, 38.97 per cent. At the moment, in Latin America there are 225 million poor people. The author challenges the idea that adjustment reforms have had "social costs" in terms of income and formal employment loss. Despite income losses, well-being indicators continued to improve; and employment statistics show that employment grew despite the economic crisis and adjustment. The paradox of household income decline and the increase in income poverty is explained.
