Book Synopsis Mathematical Morphology and Its Applications to Image Processing by : Jean Serra
Download or read book Mathematical Morphology and Its Applications to Image Processing written by Jean Serra and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical morphology (MM) is a theory for the analysis of spatial structures. It is called morphology since it aims at analysing the shape and form of objects, and it is mathematical in the sense that the analysis is based on set theory, topology, lattice algebra, random functions, etc. MM is not only a theory, but also a powerful image analysis technique. The purpose of the present book is to provide the image analysis community with a snapshot of current theoretical and applied developments of MM. The book consists of forty-five contributions classified by subject. It demonstrates a wide range of topics suited to the morphological approach.
Book Synopsis Symmetry in Optics and Vision Studies by : Marlos A.G. Viana
Download or read book Symmetry in Optics and Vision Studies written by Marlos A.G. Viana and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-11-27 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an introduction to the foundations, interpretations, and data-analytic applications of symmetry studies with an emphasis on applications in optical sciences. Symmetry studies connect group theoretic and statistical methods for data summary and inference. Readers should have an understanding of calculus and linear algebra as well as introductory statistics. The book reviews finite group theory in the introductory chapters. Computational tools used in the text are available for download in the form of Mathmaticaâ notebooks or R scripts. This book: Demonstrates the usefulness of a unified view of algebra and symmetry studies to address data-analytic questions in optics and vision science Offers a brief review of finite group theory and elements of multivariate analysis Includes various examples from diverse areas of optical science

Book Synopsis Focus on Macular Degeneration Research by : O. R. Ioseliani
Download or read book Focus on Macular Degeneration Research written by O. R. Ioseliani and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2004 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Degeneration of the macula is the leading cause of legal blindness in people over fifty-five. The macula is used for most acute and detailed vision -- reading, driving, watching television, precise work, and recognising faces. However, this weakening of central vision does not necessarily affect colour and peripheral vision. Macular degeneration generally takes place over a gradual period and at different rates in each eye. Its causes are still unclear, but there exist two main types. 'Dry' degeneration occurs when the macular tissues of the retina thin and disturb pigmentation, and 'wet' includes bleeding and scar tissue. Though macular degeneration is usually age-related, there are forms that affect younger individuals, but the reasons behind those cases are not yet known. This new book provides state-of-the-art research results on this debilitating condition.
Book Synopsis The Neuropsychology of Vision by : Manfred Fahle
Download or read book The Neuropsychology of Vision written by Manfred Fahle and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2003-10-30 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Neuropsychology of Vision describes a range of new approaches to neuropsychological investigation and provides a broad overview of visual neuropsychology. The book starts by presenting the results from new research employing single-unit recordings, on the neuronal basis of perception demonstrating that the visual system relies strongly on feedback from higher to lower levels of information processing, and that neuronal plasticity exists in the primary sensory cortices of adults, areas previously considered to be hard-wired. The book also describes other new and adapted techniques to measure brain activity, including multi-unit sum potential recording, functional magnetic resonance imaging and employing transcranial magnetic stimulation to induce temporary, circumscribed functional lesions in the cortices of normal subjects to mimic disorders. The coverage then moves on to review the experience of patients suffering from disturbances of visual perception. The disorders covered include agnosia, neglect, blindsight and achromatopsia. The final chapter is devoted to recovery and rehabilitation from cerebral visual disorder. Professors Fahle and Greenlee have brought together some of the leading international specialists in the field to provide this comprehensive and up-to-date review.
Book Synopsis Models of the Visual System by : George K. Hung
Download or read book Models of the Visual System written by George K. Hung and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 777 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of the best vision scientists in the world in their respective fields have contributed to chapters in this book. They have expertise in a wide variety of fields, including bioengineering, basic and clinical visual science, medicine, neurophysiology, optometry, and psychology. Their combined efforts have resulted in a high quality book that covers modeling and quantitative analysis of optical, neurosensory, oculomotor, perceptual and clinical systems. It includes only those techniques and models that have such fundamentally strong physiological, control system, and perceptual bases that they will serve as foundations for models and analysis techniques in the future. The book is aimed first towards seniors and beginning graduate students in biomedical engineering, neurophysiology, optometry, and psychology, who will gain a broad understanding of quantitative analysis of the visual system. In addition, it has sufficient depth in each area to be useful as an updated reference and tutorial for graduate and post-doctoral students, as well as general vision scientists.
