Book excerpt: A two dimensional, incompressible viscous inviscid interaction computer code, designed to compute cascade flows, was investigated. Comparison of the flow characteristics predicted by the code with experimentally available data indicates that the code predicts reasonably well flow parameters on lightly loaded cascades. However, the code fails to predict correctly the actual boundary layer development and the velocity distribution for highly loaded cascades. it is concluded that further improvement of the code is needed and recommendations are presented to achieve the required improvements. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contributions are made to finite Reynolds number, viscous/inviscid interaction theory for laminar, subsonic flow past a thin-airfoil trailing edge. In particular, an analytical/computational technique is developed for predicting high Reynolds number, attached or separated, trailing-edge and near-wake flow. The analysis is based on interacting boundary-layer theory in which the outer inviscid and the inner viscous flows are solved simultaneously to determine the complete flow past the displacement body. Inviscid solutions are based on linear airfoil theory and viscous solutions are determined by a finite difference approximation ot the boundary-layer equations cast in Levy-Lees variables. A semi-inverse viscous/inviscid iteration procedure is employed in which viscous and inviscid solutions are repeatedly determined until the inviscid pressure distribution at the displacement surface match the viscous pressure distribution.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive, modern account of the flow of inviscid incompressible fluids This one-stop resource for students, instructors, and professionals goes beyond analytical solutions for irrotational fluids to provide practical answers to real-world problems involving complex boundaries. It offers extensive coverage of vorticity transport as well as computational methods for inviscid flows, and it provides a solid foundation for further studies in fluid dynamics. Inviscid Incompressible Flow supplies a rigorous introduction to the continuum mechanics of fluid flows. It derives vector representation theorems, develops the vorticity transport theorem and related integral invariants, and presents theorems associated with the pressure field. This self-contained sourcebook describes both solution methods unique to two-dimensional flows and methods for axisymmetric and three-dimensional flows, many of which can be applied to two-dimensional flows as a special case. Finally, it examines perturbations of equilibrium solutions and ensuing stability issues. Important features of this powerful, timely volume include: * Focused, comprehensive coverage of inviscid incompressible fluids * Four entire chapters devoted to vorticity transport and solution of vortical flows * Theorems and computational methods for two-dimensional, axisymmetric, and three-dimensional flows * A companion Web site containing subroutines for calculations in the book * Clear, easy-to-follow presentation Inviscid Incompressible Flow, the only all-in-one presentation available on this topic, is a first-rate teaching and learning tool for graduate- and senior undergraduate-level courses in inviscid fluid dynamics. It is also an excellent reference for professionals and researchers in engineering, physics, and applied mathematics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A viscous inviscid interaction method for three dimensional flows, in which the partially parabolic Reynolds equations are coupled with an inviscid flow solution procedure in an interactive and iterative manner, is applied to two simple three dimensional bodies for which experimental data are available for comparison. The relative merits of interactive and global solution procedures are evaluation by comparing the viscous inviscid interaction solutions with noninteractive large domain solutions of only the viscous flow equations. Both methods yield satisfactory results, although the interaction solutions are found to be computationally more efficient for the cases considered. Download or read book Theoretical Calculation of Viscous-inviscid Transonic Flows written by Tsze C. Tai and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current status of computational capabilities for calculating viscous-inviscid transonic flows other than the solution of Navier-Stokes equations is presented. Techniques for solving transonic inviscid flows and compressible integral boundary layer methods are reviewed, and systems for strong viscous-inviscid interactions are described. Generally, the transonic viscous-inviscid interaction is characterized by a subcritical boundary layer with a supersonic outer stream. The thickening boundary layer produces a pressure rise which causes further thickening of the boundary layer. The physical flow is best modeled by direct coupling of the viscous and inviscid systems to allow immediate interaction between the shock wave and the boundary layer. It appears that the method of integral relations for the outer inviscid flow, combined with an integral boundary layer scheme, possesses such a capability. To facilitate the computation, an hybrid approach to the transonic inviscid solution, which consists of the finite difference method for solving the overall transonic inviscid potential flow field and the method of integral relations for solving Euler's equation in the shock region, is suggested. Finally, the application of the steady two-dimensional methods to the quasi two-dimensional problem on axisymmetric stream surface of a cascade flow at transonic speeds is discussed. (Author).
