Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simplified form of the Navier-Stokes equations was used to describe the flow in the shock layer of a blunt body. The equations are solved near the axis of the body by using the method of series truncation. The main method of solution is a finite difference method, which in principle allows one to handle axisymmetric bodies of arbitrary shape. The body shape is assumed to be given and the bow shock shape is determined step by step. (Author).

Book excerpt: A complex two-dimensional, unsteady, viscous hypersonic shock wave interaction is numerically simulated by a high-resolution, second-order fully implicit shock-capturing scheme. The physical model consists of a nonstationary oblique shock impinging on the bow shock of a blunt body. Studies indicated that the unsteady flow patterns are slightly different from their steady counterparts. However, for the sample cases investigated the peak surface pressures for the unsteady flows seem to occur at very different impingement locations than for the steady flow cases. Klopfer, G. This book was released on 1964 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The flow near the stagnation streamline of a blunt body is often analyzed by using the approximation of local similarity, which reduces the equations of motion to a system of ordinary differential equations. This scheme is equivalent to truncating at one term a powerseries expansion of the flow variables from the stagnation point, neglecting backward influence. The accuracy of such a truncation is examined. The principal assumption is that the Navier-Stokes equations are valid. In addition, it is assumed that the validity of the first truncation can be evaluated by comparing it with the second. The conclusion is that the usual assumption of local similarity is remarkably accurate for predicting flow quantities near the stagnation streamline. (Author).
