Die Bildungsinstitutionen wurden hiervon direkt beeinflusst, sodass Lehrende und Lernende gezwungen waren, den Unterricht im Homeschooling durchführen zu müssen. Dieser schnelle Umschwung vom Präsenzunterricht zur digitalen Lehre im Distance Learning führte zu einer Art Experimentalsituation. Vor dem Hintergrund dieser neuartigen Situation wurden die Ergebnisse aus 13 Studien zur digitalen Lehre im ersten Covid-19-Lockdown miteinander verglichen, um Überschneidungen und Unterschiede feststellen zu können. Dabei zeigte sich, dass vor allem die Kommunikation zwischen den Lehrenden und Lernenden in 69 % der Studien als negativ bewertet wurde, ebenso wie die technischen Fähigkeiten der Lehrenden und Lernenden. Hieraus ergibt sich die Notwendigkeit einer Überarbeitung der bisher bestehenden Strukturen. Die Kommunikation im E-Learning sollte drastisch verbessert werden, genauso wie die Kompetenzen im Umgang mit digitalen Medien und technischen Geräten wie Laptop und Tablet.
