Book excerpt: Abstract: "A new enhanced B-Rep for solids is introduced, using the concept of virtual topology in which the geometric and topological entity definitions as defined in the standard B-Rep are uncoupled, thus allowing topological entities not corresponding to geometric ones. The need for such enhancement is explained as well as the construction process starting with an object described as a standard B-Rep and resulting in the desired modified topology, suitable for the user needs. When using the solid for various applications, the B-Rep must be edited to suit the application. For instance, when meshing a solid for use in analysis many small features may need to be eliminted [sic]. The solid may also need to be dissected or decomposed into 'meshable' pieces. The introduced modified B-Rep, allows these changes to be applied to the topology only, without changing the underlying geometry, thus making the process much simpler and allowing greater editting [sic] flexibility."
