Book Synopsis Theory and Design of Digital Computer Systems by : T.R. Lewin
Download or read book Theory and Design of Digital Computer Systems written by T.R. Lewin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowledge: A little light expels much darkness _ Bahya ibn Paquda, Duties of the Heart During the early 1970s digital computer techniques concentrated on the computational and interfacing aspects of digital systems and the decade began as the age of both the mainframe computer and the minicomputer. Engineers and system designers needed to know the fundamentals of computer operation and how the practical limitations of the architectures of the day, the memory size, cost and performance could be overcome; it was for this reason that this book was first written. By 1980 the microprocessor revolution had arrived. As a result the microprocessor became a component of a system, rather than a system itself, and the need to understand the behaviour of the device became of even greater importance to the system designer. New developments in mainframe computers were few, with networks of minicomputers taking over their role in many instarices. The 1980 revision of this book took into account the major advances in semiconductor technology that had occurred since it was first published in 1972, and included material relevant to the microprocessor.
Book Synopsis Computer Architecture by : Joseph D. Dumas II
Download or read book Computer Architecture written by Joseph D. Dumas II and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not only does almost everyone in the civilized world use a personal computer, smartphone, and/or tablet on a daily basis to communicate with others and access information, but virtually every other modern appliance, vehicle, or other device has one or more computers embedded inside it. One cannot purchase a current-model automobile, for example, without several computers on board to do everything from monitoring exhaust emissions, to operating the anti-lock brakes, to telling the transmission when to shift, and so on. Appliances such as clothes washers and dryers, microwave ovens, refrigerators, etc. are almost all digitally controlled. Gaming consoles like Xbox, PlayStation, and Wii are powerful computer systems with enhanced capabilities for user interaction. Computers are everywhere, even when we don’t see them as such, and it is more important than ever for students who will soon enter the workforce to understand how they work. This book is completely updated and revised for a one-semester upper level undergraduate course in Computer Architecture, and suitable for use in an undergraduate CS, EE, or CE curriculum at the junior or senior level. Students should have had a course(s) covering introductory topics in digital logic and computer organization. While this is not a text for a programming course, the reader should be familiar with computer programming concepts in at least one language such as C, C++, or Java. Previous courses in operating systems, assembly language, and/or systems programming would be helpful, but are not essential.

Book Synopsis Dictionary and Handbook of Nuclear Medicine and Clinical Imaging by : Mario P. Iturralde
Download or read book Dictionary and Handbook of Nuclear Medicine and Clinical Imaging written by Mario P. Iturralde and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This impressive dictionary/handbook presents the nomenclature characteristic of nuclear medicine, explaining the meaning and current usage of a large variety of terms. It is designed as a ready-to-use and simple guide, arranged in alphabetical order with additional basic information assembled in the appendices. The single volume offers a look into the multidisciplinary world of this specialty. The field of nuclear medicine has emerged as an integrated medical discipline. It is an example of the convergence of many scientific disciplines with those of medicine emphasizing the use of radionuclides in research, diagnosis and therapy. The dictionary/handbook will be of importance to individuals in nuclear medicine and the following fields: physics, instrumentation, techniques, computers, radiopharmacology and radiopharmacy, radioimmunoassay, radiobiology and radiation protection, quality control, math and statistics, nuclear science and technology, radiology, ultrasound, and nuclear magnetic resonance.

Book Synopsis Algorithmic Studies in Mass Storage Systems by : C.K. Wong
Download or read book Algorithmic Studies in Mass Storage Systems written by C.K. Wong and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major technological trend for large database systems has been the introduction of ever-larger mass storage systems. This allows computing centers and business data processing installations to maintain on line their program libraries, less frequently used data files, transaction logs and backup copies under unified system control. Tapes, disks and drums are classical examples of mass storage media. The more recent IBM 3851 Mass Storage Facility, part of the IBM 3850 Mass Storage System, represents a new direction in mass storage development, namely, it is two-dimensional. With the maturity of magnetic bubble technology, more sophisticated, massive, multi-trillion-bit storage systems are not far in the future. While large in capacity, mass storage systems have in general relatively long access times. Since record access probabilities are usually not uniform, various algorithms have been devised to position the records to decrease the average access time. The first two chapters of this book are devoted mainly to such algorithmic studies in linear and two-dimensional mass storage systems. In the third chapter, we view the bubble memory as more than a storage medium. In fact, we discuss different structures where routine operations, such as data rearrangement, sorting, searching, etc., can be done in the memory itself, freeing the CPU for more complicated tasks. The problems discussed in this book are combinatorial in nature.
