Book Synopsis The Telecaster Guitar Book by : Tony Bacon
Download or read book The Telecaster Guitar Book written by Tony Bacon and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2012-07-01 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new version of Tony Bacon's Six Decades of the Fender Telecaster shows how the world's first commercially successful solidbody electric guitar still attracts musicians more than 60 years since its birth in California. Today, it is more popular than ever and for many guitarists has overtaken the Stratocaster as the Fender to own and play. The Tele is the longest-lived solidbody electric, played by everyone from Muddy Waters to Keith Richards, from Radiohead to Snow Patrol. Its sheer simplicity and versatility are vividly illustrated here through interviews with Jeff Beck, James Burton, Bill Kirchen, John 5, and more. The book is three great volumes in one: a compendium of luscious pictures of the most desirable Teles, a gripping story from the earliest days to the latest exploits, and a detailed collector's guide to every Tele ever made. Packed with pictures of great players, collectable catalogs, period press ads, and cool memorabilia, The Telecaster Guitar Book is the one Tele book that all guitar fans will want to add to their collection.

Download or read book Cold Betrayal written by J.A. Jance and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-03-10 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the New York Times bestselling author hailed for her “inimitable, take-no-prisoners style” (Kirkus Reviews), Cold Betrayal forces Ali Reynolds to confront the face of evil, and the women who are being hunted. Revenge isn’t the only dish served cold... Ali’s longtime friend and Taser-carrying nun, Sister Anselm, rushes to the bedside of a young pregnant woman hospitalized for severe injuries after she was hit by a car on a deserted Arizona highway. The girl had been running away from The Family, a polygamous cult with no patience for those who try to leave its ranks. Something about her strikes a chord in Sister Anselm, reminding her of a case she worked years before when another young girl wasn’t so lucky. Meanwhile, married life agrees with Ali. But any hopes that she and her husband, B. Simpson, will finally slow down and relax now that they’ve tied the knot are dashed when Ali’s new daughter-in-law approaches her, desperate for help. The girl’s grandmother, Betsy, is in danger: she’s been receiving anonymous threats, and someone even broke into her home and turned on the gas burners in the middle of the night. But the local police think the elderly woman’s just not as sharp as she used to be. While Ali struggles to find a way to protect Betsy before it’s too late, Sister Anselm needs her help as well, and the two race the clock to uncover the secrets that The Family has hidden for so long—before someone comes back to bury them forever.

Book Synopsis W. B. Yeats: A Life II by : R. F. Foster
Download or read book W. B. Yeats: A Life II written by R. F. Foster and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2005-03-17 with total page 868 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The acclaimed first volume of this definitive biography of W. B. Yeats left him in his fiftieth year, at a crossroads in his life. The subsequent quarter-century surveyed in The Arch-Poet takes in his rediscovery of advanced nationalism and his struggle for an independent Irish culture, his continued pursuit of supernatural truths through occult experimentation, his extraordinary marriage, and a series of tumultuous love affairs. Throughout he was writing his greatest poems: 'The Fisherman' and 'The Wild Swans at Coole' in their stark simplicity; the magnificently complex sequences on the Troubles and Civil War; the Byzantium poems; and the radically compressed last work - some of it literally written on his deathbed. The drama of his life is mapped against the history of the Irish revolution and the new Irish state founded in 1922. Yeats's many political roles and his controversial involvement in a right-wing movement during the early 1930s are covered more closely than ever before, and his complex and passionate relationship with the developing history of his country remains a central theme. Throughout this book, the genesis, alteration, and presentation of his work (memoirs and polemic as well as poetry) is explored through his private and public life. The enormous and varied circle of Yeats's friends, lovers, family, collaborators, and antagonists inhabit and enrich a personal world of astounding energy, artistic commitment, and verve. Yeats constantly re-created himself and his work, believing that art was 'not the chief end of life but an accident in one's search for reality': a search which brought him again and again back to his governing preoccupations: sex and death. He also held that 'all knowledge is biography', a belief reflected in this study of one of the greatest lives of modern times.
Download or read book Need a Cab?! written by Yarr Wauchabey and published by First Edition Design Pub.. This book was released on 2013-06-18 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 'NEED A CAB?!, The Wild Times and Misadventures of a Newbie Cab Driver, ' join Monrovian Wuss (Money, for short), a newcomer to the profession, as he whisks and wafts you along the cab-driving journey of one escapade after another, mostly hilarious but a few precarious moments. The character-driven, quick-paced story involves colorful characters and odd, outlandish situations. At Regal Taxi, Money is tricked by cowboys into riding a wild bronco, transports a cheerleader squad not shy in revealing skin, and escorts an almost-deaf elderly lady with a voice whinier than a two ton rusty door hinge. During his employment with Yellow Taxi, he delivers a plastered air traffic controller to the airport, making him vow he'll never fly again, while on another run he questions his sanity after experiencing the effects of a ventriloquist. American Taxi offers little relief from the abnormal or weird, only this time the deviance isn't pertinent to passengers: a dispatcher calls him 'Toots' and a fellow driver has a manic reaction of clapping once, bending over and bark-laughing over anything the least bit funny. Money eventually forms his own Wild Hare Taxi--one cab, one driver--and survives even zanier characters and events: preventing his cab from being towed by a transplanted Mainer, navigating German-speaking tennis players to their destination and battling trouble-making fellow cabdrivers. Money moves to Alaska intent on driving cab in the winter and building his own wilderness cabin in the summer, wondering whether he can withstand the call of the wild over the demands of making a living in crazier circumstances. Sprinkled and layered throughout are social commentaries concerning designers and their designs, common sense and pragmatism, the fact that we all have our own demons, devils and peccadilloes, and the plain simple truth that things just aren't always as they seem. Download or read book Aspiration written by Agnes Callard and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Becoming someone is a learning process; and what we learn is the new values around which, if we succeed, our lives will come to turn. Agents transform themselves in the process of, for example, becoming parents, embarking on careers, or acquiring a passion for music or politics. How can such activity be rational, if the reason for engaging in the relevant pursuit is only available to the person one will become? How is it psychologically possible to feel the attraction of a form of concern that is not yet one's own? How can the work done to arrive at the finish line be ascribed to one who doesn't (really) know what one is doing, or why one is doing it? In Aspiration, Agnes Callard asserts that these questions belong to the theory of aspiration. Aspirants are motivated by proleptic reasons, acknowledged defective versions of the reasons they expect to eventually grasp. The psychology of such a transformation is marked by intrinsic conflict between their old point of view on value and the one they are trying to acquire. They cannot adjudicate this conflict by deliberating or choosing or deciding-rather, they resolve it by working to see the world in a new way. This work has a teleological structure: by modeling oneself on the person he or she is trying to be, the aspirant brings that person into being. Because it is open to us to engage in an activity of self-creation, we are responsible for having become the kinds of people we are.
Download or read book Tattoos & Tequila written by Vince Neil and published by Hachette+ORM. This book was released on 2011-03-21 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "So where do we start? I remember when we did The Dirt, the Mötley Crüe book, I was interviewed at The Grand Havana Room in Beverly Hills. A lot of people think I didn't get to say much in The Dirt. It's probably true. I didn't read it. I'm not that big a talker. Some people can f*ckin' talk ... eat up all the oxygen in a room in no time flat. I don't tend to run my mouth. It's b*llshit. All those years in rehab and counseling--the talking cure? I can't say I really got that much out of it. All that cure and I should be cured by now, don't you think? All this talking... So forgive me if it's a bit hard for me to slice open a vein and let my blood run red all over this page for you. I'll fight you or I'll f*ck you but chances are I'll be hard pressed to sit there and talk to you. War stories. War wounds. I know, I know. Old rock stars fall hard. I'm forty-nine years old. I'm five-foot-nine, 170. The spandex is over. I've had three plastic surgeries. Still, who do you think gets laid more, me or you? But time does change a man. I ain't twenty-one anymore. It's a miracle we survived at all. A bottle of Jack Daniel's and uncooked hot dogs do not make for a particularly well-balanced diet. We are all very lucky we didn't kill ourselves. It might look like we were trying to do that but speaking for myself, death was never my intent. I just wanted to feel good, you know? I was just looking for that kick, that high... These days I've got businesses to run. I like the action. Something to get your heart pumping. Healthier than a syringe full of cocaine powder like I was doing back in '81 with my girlfriend Lovey, that's for sure... But you got to admit...those days are a lot more fun to talk about..."
