Book Synopsis Molecular Symmetry and Spectroscopy by : Philip R. Bunker
Download or read book Molecular Symmetry and Spectroscopy written by Philip R. Bunker and published by NRC Research Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 778 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition, by P.R. Bunker, published in 1979, remains the sole textbook that explains the use of the molecular symmetry group in understanding high resolution molecular spectra. Since 1979 there has been considerable progress in the field and a second edition is required; the original author has been joined in its writing by Per Jensen. The Material of the first edition has been reorganized and much has been added. The molecular symmetry group is now introduced early on, and the explanation of how to determine nuclear spin statistical weights has been consolidated in one chapter, after groups, symmetry groups, character tables and the Hamiltonian have been introduced. A description of the symmetry in the three-dimensional rotation group K(spatial), irreducible spherical tensor operators, and vector coupling coefficients is now included. The chapters on energy levels and selection rules contain a great deal of material that was not in the first edition (much of it was undiscovered in 1979), concerning the Jahn-Teller effect, the Renner effect, Multichannel Quantum Defect Theory, the use of variational methods for calculating rotational-vibration energy levels, and the contact transformed rotation-vibration Hamiltonian. A new chapter is devoted entirely to weakly bound cluster molecules (often called Van der Waals molecules). A selection of experimental spectra is included in order to illustrate particular theoretical points.

Now, anyone can! This book will teach you how to play any chord symbol you will find in pop, jazz or rock; how to create stylish arrangements on your own; and how to sound like a "pro" even when reading sheet music for the first time. Topics include bass lines, counter-melodies, intros and endings, rhythmic patterns, and embellishing a melody.--From publisher description

Book Synopsis Mathematics and Social Utopias in France by : Simon L. Altmann
Download or read book Mathematics and Social Utopias in France written by Simon L. Altmann and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social reformer, banker, and mathematician, Olinde Rodrigues is a fascinating figure in nineteenth-century Paris. Information about him is obscure--scattered in publications on history, mathematics, and the social sciences--and often inaccurate. Rodrigues left no papers or archives. Here, for the first time, is an authoritative account of his family history, education, and important mathematical works. Written by a team of prominent mathematicians and historians, the book comprisesthe interests and associations that make Rodrigues such a remarkable character in the history of mathematics. This is a superb panorama of nineteenth-century France, portrayed through the life and work of Olinde Rodrigues. The beginning chapters attempt to recreate the scientific and socialbackground of nineteenth-century Paris and Rodrigues's place in it. The following chapters discuss his contributions to a variety of mathematical fields (e.g., orthogonal polynomials, combinatorics, and rotations). The final chapters discuss contemporary reactions to his mathematical work. Sufficient background is given to make it accessible to readers familiar with basic college mathematics. The book is suitable for specialists in the history of mathematics and/or science, graduate students, and mathematicians.
Book Synopsis Gabor and Wavelet Frames by : Say Song Goh
Download or read book Gabor and Wavelet Frames written by Say Song Goh and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gabor and wavelet analyses have found widespread applications in signal analysis, image processing and many other information-related areas. Both deliver representations that are simultaneously local in time and in frequency. Due to their significance and success in practical applications, they formed some of the core topics of the program ?Mathematics and Computation in Imaging Science and Information Processing?, which was held at the Institute for Mathematical Sciences, National University of Singapore, from July to December 2003 and in August 2004. As part of the program, tutorial lectures were conducted by international experts, and they covered a wide spectrum of topics in mathematical image, signal and information processing. This volume includes exposition articles by the tutorial speakers on the foundations of Gabor analysis, subband filters and wavelet algorithms, and operator-theoretic interpolation of wavelets and frames. It also presents research papers on Gabor analysis, written by specialists in their respective areas. The volume takes graduate students and researchers new to the field on a valuable learning journey from introductory Gabor and wavelet analyses to advanced topics of current research.
