Book Synopsis Formal Methods Applied to Complex Systems by : Jean-Louis Boulanger
Download or read book Formal Methods Applied to Complex Systems written by Jean-Louis Boulanger and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-07-22 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents real-world examples of formal techniques in an industrial context. It covers formal methods such as SCADE and/or the B Method, in various fields such as railways, aeronautics, and the automotive industry. The purpose of this book is to present a summary of experience on the use of “formal methods” (based on formal techniques such as proof, abstract interpretation and model-checking) in industrial examples of complex systems, based on the experience of people currently involved in the creation and assessment of safety critical system software. The involvement of people from within the industry allows the authors to avoid the usual confidentiality problems which can arise and thus enables them to supply new useful information (photos, architecture plans, real examples, etc.).
Book Synopsis Flexoelectricity in Liquid Crystals by : Agnes Buka
Download or read book Flexoelectricity in Liquid Crystals written by Agnes Buka and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book intends to give a state-of-the-art overview of flexoelectricity, a linear physical coupling between mechanical (orientational) deformations and electric polarization, which is specific to systems with orientational order, such as liquid crystals. Chapters written by experts in the field shed light on theoretical as well as experimental aspects of research carried out since the discovery of flexoelectricity. Besides a common macroscopic (continuum) description the microscopic theory of flexoelectricity is also addressed. Electro-optic effects due to or modified by flexoelectricity as well as various (direct and indirect) measurement methods are discussed. Special emphasis is given to the role of flexoelectricity in pattern-forming instabilities. While the main focus of the book lies in flexoelectricity in nematic liquid crystals, peculiarities of other mesophases (bent-core systems, cholesterics, and smectics) are also reviewed. Flexoelectricity has relevance to biological (living) systems and can also offer possibilities for technical applications. The basics of these two interdisciplinary fields are also summarized.
Book Synopsis Low Frequency Scattering by : George Dassios
Download or read book Low Frequency Scattering written by George Dassios and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scattering theory deals with the interactions of waves with obstacles in their path, and low frequency scattering occurs when the obstacles involved are very small. This book gives an overview of the subject for graduates and researchers, for the first time unifying the theories covering acoustic, electromagnetic and elastic waves.

Book Synopsis Diffusion in Materials - DIMAT 2011 by : I. Bezverkhyy
Download or read book Diffusion in Materials - DIMAT 2011 written by I. Bezverkhyy and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference on Diffusion in Materials (DIMAT) is the benchmark conference series for diffusion in solids. DIMAT 2011 was organized by the University of Bourgogne in association with CNRS, Dijon (France). The conference showcased new results concerning theoretical tools as well as applied research approaches. Diffusion processes affect all types of materials: nanomaterials, materials for energy, metallurgy, glasses and ceramics, but each requires its own numerical tools.Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS). This volume comprises most of the contributions presented at DIMAT 2011: 4 plenary lectures delivered by famous high-level scientists plus 88 contributions in the form of keynote lectures, talks and posters.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the age of twenty-eight, Marty Ellis is still a bachelor who graduated with a major in journalism and a minor in photojournalism. He enjoys his life with various girlfriends while knocking back drinks in bars, going out to dinner, and rolling in the sheets. Yet inevitably, he grows tired of these surface-level-only feelings, shells out his standard goodbye speech, and moves on. However, using only his body and saying sayonara to his love lifeaEUR(tm)s revolving door is not how he wants to live for the rest of his life. How will he ever know what true love feels like if he doesnaEUR(tm)t ascertain how to actually give it? In what way will he begin to be able to discover the whole package that runs beneath the surface of a woman? Unexpectedly, Marty is blindsided when his best friend invites him to leave New Jersey for a weekend trip. Lauren Morris is a beautiful thirty-two-year-old woman who, after graduating at the age of twenty-one with a masteraEUR(tm)s degree in business, took a huge leap of faith and purchased an old farmhouse in Vermont. After ten years of hard work and sweat equity, she has transformed it into a beautiful inn that has become extremely lucrative. But winter is fast approaching, and she is dreading that feeling of loneliness that is connected to darkened afternoons and long, empty nights. Will a man ever enter her life? One that she could love and perhaps be with until death due them part? After meeting Marty, Lauren begins to consider if this man might be the one she has been waiting for her whole life. But then again, she is older than he is; long distance relationships hardly ever work out; and sudden heartbreaking unforeseen events rock both of their worlds.
