This book was released on 2019-08-09 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book includes concise descriptions of the history of 28 nations on the American continent, and focuses on features that hinder authentic development, particularly ethnic or class conflicts and wealth distribution. Its purpose is to stimulate an appreciation of history and cultural values, thus reinforcing the harmony of social relations. Essential elements of history, economics and sociology are presented in a plain and easily readable form, allowing the book to be directed to a non-specialized audience of individuals and students at the bachelors level in both developed and developing countries. The leadership of new generations will need to consider new development models based on balanced compromises between economic and technological progress and the most basic aspirations of society. Each chapter includes a brief presentation of data on the territory and the ethnic composition and current socio-economic situation of a particular American nation. They also provide a scholarly description of the main historical events, and end with a brief insight into how the successes or difficulties of the individual country relate to cultural and historical events and to the evolution of that country’s national identity or, indeed, identities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "[This book provides an overview] of the intellectual evolution of international law in Spain from the late 18th century to the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War. [The author] recounts the history of the two 'renaissances' of Francisco de Vitoria and the Spanish classics of international law and contextualizes the ideological glorification of the Salamanca School by Franco's international lawyers. Historical excursuses on the intellectual evolution of international law in the US and the UK complement the neglected history of international law in Spain from the first empire in history on which the sun never set to a diminished and fascistized national-Catholicist state."--

Book Synopsis The Rites Controversies in the Early Modern World by :
Download or read book The Rites Controversies in the Early Modern World written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-07-10 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rites Controversies in the Early Modern World is a collection of fourteen articles focusing on debates concerning the nature of “rites” raging in intellectual circles of Europe, Asia and America in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The controversy started in Jesuit Asian missions where the method of accommodation, based on translation of Christianity into Asian cultural idioms, created a distinction between civic and religious customs. Civic customs were defined as those that could be included into Christianity and permitted to the new converts. However, there was no universal consensus among the various actors in these controversies as to how to establish criteria for distinguishing civility from religion. The controversy had not been resolved, but opened the way to radical religious scepticism. Book Synopsis The Right to Dress by : Giorgio Riello
Download or read book The Right to Dress written by Giorgio Riello and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-01-17 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first global history of dress regulation and its place in broader debates around how human life and societies should be visualised and materialised. Sumptuary laws were a tool on the part of states to regulate not only manufacturing systems and moral economies via the medium of expenditure and consumption of clothing but also banquets, festivities and funerals. Leading scholars on Asian, Latin American, Ottoman and European history shed new light on how and why items of dress became key aspirational goods across society, how they were lobbied for and marketed, and whether or not sumptuary laws were implemented by cities, states and empires to restrict or channel trade and consumption. Their findings reveal the significance of sumptuary laws in medieval and early modern societies as a site of contestation between individuals and states and how dress as an expression of identity developed as a modern 'human right'.
