Operation Cauldron, 1952: Top-secret germ warfare experiments on monkeys and guinea pigs are taking place aboard a vessel moored off the Isle of Lewis. Local villagers Jessie and Duncan encounter strange sights on the deserted beach nearby and suspect the worst. And one government scientist wrestles with his own inner anguish over the testing, even if he believes extreme deterrent weapons are needed. When a noxious cloud of plague bacteria is released into the path of a passing trawler, disaster threatens. Will a deadly pandemic be inevitable? A haunting exploration of the costs and fallout of warmongering, Donald S Murray follows his prize-winning first novel with an equally moving exploration of another little-known incident in the Outer Hebridean island where he grew up.

Book excerpt: Being a true and faithful account of her Journey to the Interior of the Earth, with a careful description of the Country and its Inhabitants, their Customs, Manners and Government. ExcerptHaving little knowledge of rhetorical art, and possessing but a limited imagination, it is only a strong sense of the duty I owe to Science and the progressive minds of the age, that induces me to come before the public in the character of an author. True, I have only a simple narration of facts to deal with, and am, therefore, not expected to present artistic effects, and poetical imagery, nor any of those flights of imagination that are the trial and test of genius.Yet my task is not a light one. I may fail to satisfy my own mind that the true merits of the wonderful and mysterious people I discovered, have been justly described. I may fail to interest the public; which is the one difficulty most likely to occur, and most to be regretted--not for my own sake, but theirs. It is so hard to get human nature out of the ruts it has moved in for ages. To tear away their present faith, is like undermining their existence. Yet others who come after me will be more aggressive than I. I have this consolation: whatever reception may be given my narrative by the public, I know that it has been written solely for its good. That wonderful civilization I met with in Mizora, I may not be able to more than faintly shadow forth here, yet from it, the present age may form some idea of that grand, that ideal life that is possible for our remote posterity. Again and again has religious enthusiasm pictured a life to be eliminated from the grossness and imperfections of our material existence. The Spirit--the Mind--that mental gift, by or through which we think, reason, and suffer, is by one tragic and awful struggle to free itself from temporal blemishes and difficulties, and become spiritual and perfect. Yet, who, sweeping the limitless fields of space with a telescope, glancing at myriads of worlds that a lifetime could not count, or gazing through a microscope at a tiny world in a drop of water, has dreamed that patient Science and practice could evolve for the living human race, the ideal life of exalted knowledge: the life that I found in Mizora; that Science had made real and practicable. The duty that I owe to truth compels me to acknowledge that I have not been solicited to write this narrative by my friends; nor has it been the pastime of my leisure hours; nor written to amuse an invalid; nor, in fact, for any of those reasons which have prompted so many men and women to write a book. It is, on the contrary, the result of hours of laborious work, undertaken for the sole purpose of benefiting Science and giving encouragement to those progressive minds who have already added their mite of knowledge to the coming future of the race. ""We owe a duty to posterity,"" says Junius in his famous letter to the king. A declaration that ought to be a motto for every schoolroom, and graven above every legislative hall in the world. It should be taught to the child as soon as reason has begun to dawn, and be its guide until age has become its master. It is my desire not to make this story a personal matter; and for that unavoidable prominence which is given one's own identity in relating personal experiences, an indulgence is craved from whomsoever may peruse these pages. In order to explain how and why I came to venture upon a journey no other of my sex has ever attempted, I am compelled to make a slight mention of my family and nationality.I am a Russian: born to a family of nobility, wealth, and political power. Had the natural expectations for my birth and condition been fulfilled, I should have lived, loved, married and died a Russian aristocrat, and been unknown to the next generation--and this narrative would not have been written.

A powerful, beautiful novel, set across two decades, in the wake of a devastating maritime tragedy. “Full of memorable images and singing lines of prose.” Sarah Waters Tormod Morrison was on board HMY Iolaire on the terrible night as 1919 dawned, when the ship smashed into rocks and sank: some 200 servicemen drowned on the very last leg of their long journey home from war. For Tormod—a man unlike others, with artistry in his fingertips—the disaster would mark him indelibly. And for the stunned islanders, who had so joyfully anticipated the return of their sons, brothers and sweethearts, no shock could have been greater or more difficult to live with. Two decades later, Alasdair and Rachel are sent to the windswept Isle of Lewis to live with Tormod in his traditional blackhouse home, a world away from the Glasgow of their earliest years. Their grandfather is kind, compassionate, but still deeply affected by the Iolaire shipwreck—by the selfless heroism and desperate tragedy he witnessed. A deeply moving novel about passion constrained, coping with loss and a changing world, As the Women Lay Dreaming explores how a single event can so dramatically impact communities, individuals and, indeed, our very souls.

A very gripping and powerful theme it has all the ingredients of modern and traditional life, destiny and the unknown. Set in the hearts of Kashmir and Pakistan, this story provides an amazing and cultural backdrop into the mystery and magnificence of this part of the world; deemed a 'Paradise on Earth'. On a trip to a rural village in Kashmir for his next consignment as a computer engineer from Lahore, Amir whilst taken aback by the alluring scenery, is astonished to find before him an even more alluring woman, Gori. Lost and tired; Amir, with the help of this enchanting lady arrives comfortably at his destination and completes his consignment. On return to Lahore a happily married Amir is greeted with open arms from his wife and soul mate Anny. Upon asking about the particulars of his journey, Anny becoming aware of her husband's acquaintance with Gori and learning of her beauty and excellence becomes jealous beyond compare. Amir however revoking his story in an effort to calm her jealously pulls his wife back and reiterates his boundless love for her, and her only. After receiving a lucrative offer which could change their lives for ever, Amir is beckoned to Egypt the following day for a consignment unlike any other he has carried out before. After Amir's exit, Anny all alone yet again and missing her husband after just one night of re-acquaintance is shocked to find an enviously beautiful yet poor and destitute looking girl at the door. Anny is baffled even further at the mention of her husband's name coming from a complete stranger. Overcome with clemency for the girl, invites her into her house and decides to accommodate her until her husbands return. Is it not strange that lives and lifestyles commonly taken for granted can be upturned into catastrophic turmoil by a simple knock on the door. But every knocking door must be answered... right?

Book excerpt: This book represents an insider’s view of what life might have been like during the time when the struggle between Good and Evil began. There was a time when the universe was at peace with the Creator but that soon changed when some of God’s Angelic Messengers rebelled and tried to usurp God’s power and attempted to rule the earth themselves. Those most vulnerable were the women on earth who now would be the main targets of this rebellion. Would these women stand firm or would they give in to the sensual and material advances of these powerful Angelic Creatures? And ultimately, who will win the battle of Good over Evil?

But her fifth book resists all her attempts to even write its opening pages. And then she stumbles across a story of the mysterious disappearances of twelve people from the village nearly two decades ago, and her fifth book is all but forgotten. Like a bloodhound on a scent, she pursues the story of the disappearances obsessively, relentlessly. And the more she uncovers and discovers, the more she feels herself being pulled into their story by forces beyond her control, like a novice swimmer caught in a rip. As she unravels the mystery of what happened to the twelve people who went missing from the village, she finds herself not just pursuing their story, but becoming a part of it . . . .

Book excerpt: This book Avatar Of God, the sequel to Betwixt and Between, The Matrix of my mind, gives a transparent view of how humanity’s historical past has been completely controlled by the beLIEf systems. This book shares with the reader the author’s own personal journey back into antiquity, to the conception of the beLIEf systems that have kept humanity subservient, unable to reach their full potential as divine Avatars Of God. Journeying to many countries globally the book takes an historically hard long look at religious beLIEfs and how one person’s opinion was over time gradually adopted as a truth for all of humanity to live by and how that beLIEf has effected the evolutionarily process. The beLIEf systems irrevocably have given rise to all wars, past and present. The narrative in the book expresses how horrific ravaging and devastating wars have a direct adverse effect on climate change. Direct dialogue suggests the reader look at the political leadership and financial systems globally. Are they in their current form able to substantially sustain ethnic equality in an inclusive United World with No Boundaries. The Avatar Of God is a compelling, thought provoking handbook for evolving humans in the 21st century.
