Book Synopsis Abiotic Stress Physiology of Horticultural Crops by : N.K. Srinivasa Rao
Download or read book Abiotic Stress Physiology of Horticultural Crops written by N.K. Srinivasa Rao and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together recent advances in the area of abiotic stress tolerance in various vegetables, fruit crops, plantation crops and tuber crops. The main challenges to improving the productivity of horticultural crops are the different types of abiotic stresses generally caused by climate change at the regional and global level. Heat, drought, cold and salinity are the major abiotic stresses that adversely affect growth and productivity and can trigger a series of morphological, physiological, biochemical and molecular changes in various horticultural crops. To date, there are no books covering horticultural crop-specific abiotic stress tolerance mechanisms and their management. Addressing that gap, the book is divided into 2 sections, the first of which highlights recent advances in the general aspects of abiotic stress tolerance like the role of hormones, reactive oxygen species, seed treatments, molecular mechanisms of heat tolerance and heavy metal toxicity, while the second focuses on the abiotic stress tolerance mechanisms of various vegetables, fruit crops, plantation crops and tuber crops. It includes comprehensive discussions of fruit crops like mango, grapes, banana, litchi and arid zone fruits; vegetables crops like tomato, capsicum, onion and tuber crops; and plantation crops like coconut, areca nut, oil palm and black pepper. Among the strategies for plant stress survival, examples of both avoidance and tolerance relevant to particular crops are examined in detail, supported by selected comprehensive case studies of progress. As such, the book offers a valuable resource suited for scientists and graduate students working in the fields of crop improvement, genetic engineering, and the abiotic stress tolerance of horticultural crops.
Book Synopsis Physiology of Stressed Crops, Vol. 1 by : U S Gupta
Download or read book Physiology of Stressed Crops, Vol. 1 written by U S Gupta and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-10-24 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present multi-volume treatise has been planned to discuss important aspects of the crop-plant physiological aspects, viz., hormones, nutrients, cell membranes, and induced proteins, as related to different types of stresses each in separate volumes. Another type of stress which can be classed under biotic, environmental (sil) or chemical, viz., the stress of allelochemicals which has not been discussed before as a stress factor, will be discussed in a separate volume emphasizing its practical/ ap-plied aspects, rather than mentioning only the allelopathic effects. In this volume on Hormone Relations, different stresses have been arranged in order of their importance and work done.

Book excerpt: Whether they are called peppers, chiles, paprika, or ajis, plants in the genus Capsicum, are among the most important spice and vegetable commodities worldwide because they are used in so many different types of food. Like other crops, peppers are afflicted with diseases, disorders, and pests that can reduce fruit quality and yield.Compendium of Pepper Diseases provides a comprehensive presentation of the important pepper diseases of the world. With the help of 122 color photographs and thorough descriptions of pathogens, this valuable reference enables readers to easily identify diseases on the basis of symptoms and formulate field and laboratory diagnoses of diseases caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, parasitic angiosperms, and nematodes.Readers will also learn about the geographical distribution and impact of each disease, control measures, and epidemiological aspects of diseases as well as gain knowledge on plant health problems associated with arthropods, nutritional deficiencies, herbicide injuries, and other abiotic causes. This compendium also includes sections discussing the botany of pepper, current production practices, and postharvest damage to pepper fruit.Edited and authored by 39 professionals with international expertise in pepper pathology in several unique production areas and in diverse areas of pathogen expertise, Compendium of Pepper Diseases will prove invaluable to growers, extension agents, county agents, crop production specialists, researchers, plant pathologists, horticulturists, agronomists, agribusiness professionals, educators, students and anyone interested in the diagnosis or management of diseases of pepper crops throughout the world. - Publisher.
