Book Synopsis Value-Distribution of L-Functions by : Jörn Steuding
Download or read book Value-Distribution of L-Functions written by Jörn Steuding and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-05-26 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes present recent results in the value-distribution theory of L-functions with emphasis on the phenomenon of universality. Universality has a strong impact on the zero-distribution: Riemann’s hypothesis is true only if the Riemann zeta-function can approximate itself uniformly. The text proves universality for polynomial Euler products. The authors’ approach follows mainly Bagchi's probabilistic method. Discussion touches on related topics: almost periodicity, density estimates, Nevanlinna theory, and functional independence.

Book Synopsis Advanced Analytic Number Theory: L-Functions by : Carlos J. Moreno
Download or read book Advanced Analytic Number Theory: L-Functions written by Carlos J. Moreno and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the pioneering work of Euler, Dirichlet, and Riemann, the analytic properties of L-functions have been used to study the distribution of prime numbers. With the advent of the Langlands Program, L-functions have assumed a greater role in the study of the interplay between Diophantine questions about primes and representation theoretic properties of Galois representations. This book provides a complete introduction to the most significant class of L-functions: the Artin-Hecke L-functions associated to finite-dimensional representations of Weil groups and to automorphic L-functions of principal type on the general linear group. In addition to establishing functional equations, growth estimates, and non-vanishing theorems, a thorough presentation of the explicit formulas of Riemann type in the context of Artin-Hecke and automorphic L-functions is also given. The survey is aimed at mathematicians and graduate students who want to learn about the modern analytic theory of L-functions and their applications in number theory and in the theory of automorphic representations. The requirements for a profitable study of this monograph are a knowledge of basic number theory and the rudiments of abstract harmonic analysis on locally compact abelian groups.
Book Synopsis Nevanlinna’s Theory of Value Distribution by : William Cherry
Download or read book Nevanlinna’s Theory of Value Distribution written by William Cherry and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-04-24 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph serves as a self-contained introduction to Nevanlinna's theory of value distribution as well as a valuable reference for research specialists. Authors present, for the first time in book form, the most modern and refined versions of the Second Main Theorem with precise error terms, in both the geometric and logarithmic derivative based approaches. A unique feature of the monograph is its number theoretic digressions These special sections assume no background in number theory and explore the exciting interconnections between Nevanlinna theory and the theory of Diophantine approximation.
Book Synopsis Value Distribution Theory by : L. Sario
Download or read book Value Distribution Theory written by L. Sario and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this research monograph is to build up a modern value distribution theory for complex analytic mappings between abstract Riemann surfaces. All results presented herein are new in that, apart from the classical background material in the last chapter, there is no over lapping with any existing monograph on merom orphic functions. Broadly speaking the division of the book is as follows: The Introduction and Chapters I to III deal mainly with the theory of mappings of arbitrary Riemann surfaces as developed by the first named author; Chapter IV, due to Nakai, is devoted to meromorphic functions on parabolic surfaces; Chapter V contains Matsumoto's results on Picard sets; Chapter VI, pre dominantly due to the second named author, presents the so-called nonintegrated forms of the main theorems and includes some joint work by both authors. For a complete list of writers whose results have been discussed we refer to the Author Index.

Book Synopsis Twisted L-Functions and Monodromy. (AM-150) by : Nicholas M. Katz
Download or read book Twisted L-Functions and Monodromy. (AM-150) written by Nicholas M. Katz and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2002-02-24 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For hundreds of years, the study of elliptic curves has played a central role in mathematics. The past century in particular has seen huge progress in this study, from Mordell's theorem in 1922 to the work of Wiles and Taylor-Wiles in 1994. Nonetheless, there remain many fundamental questions where we do not even know what sort of answers to expect. This book explores two of them: What is the average rank of elliptic curves, and how does the rank vary in various kinds of families of elliptic curves? Nicholas Katz answers these questions for families of ''big'' twists of elliptic curves in the function field case (with a growing constant field). The monodromy-theoretic methods he develops turn out to apply, still in the function field case, equally well to families of big twists of objects of all sorts, not just to elliptic curves. The leisurely, lucid introduction gives the reader a clear picture of what is known and what is unknown at present, and situates the problems solved in this book within the broader context of the overall study of elliptic curves. The book's technical core makes use of, and explains, various advanced topics ranging from recent results in finite group theory to the machinery of l-adic cohomology and monodromy. Twisted L-Functions and Monodromy is essential reading for anyone interested in number theory and algebraic geometry.
Book Synopsis The Lerch zeta-function by : Antanas Laurincikas
Download or read book The Lerch zeta-function written by Antanas Laurincikas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lerch zeta-function is the first monograph on this topic, which is a generalization of the classic Riemann, and Hurwitz zeta-functions. Although analytic results have been presented previously in various monographs on zeta-functions, this is the first book containing both analytic and probability theory of Lerch zeta-functions. The book starts with classical analytical theory (Euler gamma-functions, functional equation, mean square). The majority of the presented results are new: on approximate functional equations and its applications and on zero distribution (zero-free regions, number of nontrivial zeros etc). Special attention is given to limit theorems in the sense of the weak convergence of probability measures for the Lerch zeta-function. From limit theorems in the space of analytic functions the universitality and functional independence is derived. In this respect the book continues the research of the first author presented in the monograph Limit Theorems for the Riemann zeta-function. This book will be useful to researchers and graduate students working in analytic and probabilistic number theory, and can also be used as a textbook for postgraduate students.
Book Synopsis Value Distribution Theory by : Yang Lo
Download or read book Value Distribution Theory written by Yang Lo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-10-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well known that solving certain theoretical or practical problems often depends on exploring the behavior of the roots of an equation such as (1) J(z) = a, where J(z) is an entire or meromorphic function and a is a complex value. It is especially important to investigate the number n(r, J = a) of the roots of (1) and their distribution in a disk Izl ~ r, each root being counted with its multiplicity. It was the research on such topics that raised the curtain on the theory of value distribution of entire or meromorphic functions. In the last century, the famous mathematician E. Picard obtained the pathbreaking result: Any non-constant entire function J(z) must take every finite complex value infinitely many times, with at most one excep tion. Later, E. Borel, by introducing the concept of the order of an entire function, gave the above result a more precise formulation as follows. An entire function J (z) of order A( 0 A
