This book was released on 2022-09-05 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

The handbook examines a range of theoretical, policy, and research issues and provides a comprehensive overview of aggressive and violent behavior. The breadth of coverage is impressive, ranging from research on biological factors related to violence and behavior-genetics to research on terrrorism and the impact of violence in different cultures. The authors examine violence from international cross-cultural perspectives, with chapters that examine both quantitative and qualitative research. They also look at violence at multiple levels: individual, family, neighborhood, cultural, and across multiple perspectives and systems, including treatment, justice, education, and public health.
Book Synopsis Full Report of the Prevalence, Incidence, and Consequences of Violence Against Women by : Patricia Tjaden
Download or read book Full Report of the Prevalence, Incidence, and Consequences of Violence Against Women written by Patricia Tjaden and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-07-19 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on violence against women has exploded in the past 20 years, particularly in the areas of intimate partner violence and sexual assault. Despite this outpouring of research, many gaps exist in our understanding of violence against women. For instance, reliable information on minority women's experiences with violence is still lacking. Few empirical data exist on the relationship between different forms of violence against women, such as victimization in childhood and subsequent victimization. Finally, empirical data on the consequences of violence against women, including their injury rates and use of medical services, are lacking. To further understanding of violence against women, the National Institute of Justice and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention jointly sponsored, through a grant to the Center for Policy Research, a national survey that was conducted from November 1995 to May 1996. The National Violence Against Women (NVAW) Survey sampled both women and men and thus provides comparable data on women's and men's experiences with violent victimization. Respondents to the survey were asked about: Physical assault they experienced as children by adult caretakers; Physical assault they experienced as adults by any type of assailant; Forcible rape and stalking they experienced at any time in their life by any type of perpetrator. Respondents who disclosed that they had been victimized were asked detailed questions about the characteristics and consequences of their victimization, including injuries they sustained and their use of medical services. This NIJ Research Report presents findings from the NVAW Survey on the prevalence and incidence of rape, physical assault, and stalking; the rate of injury among rape and physical assault victims; and injured victims' use of medical services. The data show that violence is more widespread and injurious to women's and men's health than previously thought—an important finding for legislators, policymakers, intervention planners, and researchers as well as the public health and criminal justice communities.

This book was released on 2024-10-01 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis The Youth Relationships Manual by : David A. Wolfe
Download or read book The Youth Relationships Manual written by David A. Wolfe and published by SAGE. This book was released on 1996-04 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Help teens who are at risk of experiencing or perpetuating abuse with The Youth Relationships Manual. Designed to build strengths, resilience, and coping, this manual, field-tested with the Youth Relationships Project, presents proactive, competency-building approaches to promoting nonviolent relationships and preventing cycles of violence. Based on the premise that the best window of opportunity for developing healthy relationships is in adolescence, the model guides teens to positive roles in dating, peer interactions, and interpersonal style. David A. Wolfe and his associates detail a carefully developed and tested curriculum for an 18-session group training program that includes three principal sections: informational, skills building, and social action learning opportunities. As a part of the program, teens learn new communication and conflict resolution skills and practice those skills by going out into the community to solve a hypothetical problem situation. Innovative and easy to follow, The Youth Relationships Manual provides mental health professionals, school counselors and administrators, community agency workers and administrators, and students in the helping professions with a vital tool for helping teens at risk develop healthy relationships.
