Book excerpt: Vacuum Bubbling introduces the background and applications for generating bubbles under a vacuum condition, accomplished through depressurization without the need to heat water. It presents the advantage of utilizing vapor bubble in deaeration applications because the diffusion for degassing happens between the water body and micro vapor bubbles without the need of membrane or packing. Instead of relying on massive heating, vacuum bubbling focuses on depressurization down to the level of saturated vapor pressure or below to secure vapor bubbles with virtually zero dissolved non-condensable gases, including oxygen. The book considers prospective applications, such as extracting high-oxygen-content air from water for underwater breathing, pretreatment of aircraft fuel before being pumped into a fuel tank system, and probable desalination applications through massive bubbling combined with low-grade renewable energy. The book is intended for researchers in thermal fluids, heat and mass transfer, process engineering, and water treatment fields and industry professionals working in power generation, plant and process engineering, transportation, and energy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a compilation of works which, taken together, give a complete and consistent presentation of instanton calculus in non-Abelian gauge theories, as it exists now. Some of the papers reproduced are instanton classics. Among other things, they show from a historical perspective how the instanton solution has been found, the motivation behind it and how the physical meaning of instantons has been revealed. Other papers are devoted to different aspects of instanton formalism including instantons in supersymmetric gauge theories. A few unsolved problems associated with instantons are described in great detail. The papers are organized into several sections that are linked both logically and historically, accompanied by extensive comments.

This book presents a comprehensive introduction to designing systems to deal with heat – effective management of cold, exploring the directing (or redirecting), promoting, or inhibiting this flow of heat in a practical way. It provides a description of the necessary theory, design methodology, and advanced demonstrations (thermodynamics, heat transfer, thermal insulation, fluid mechanics) for many frequently occurring situations in low-temperature apparatus. This includes systems that are widely used such as superconducting magnets for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), high-energy physics, fusion, tokamak and free electron laser systems, space launch and exploration, and energy and transportation use of liquid hydrogen, as well as potential future applications of cryo-life sciences and chemical industries. The book is written with the assumption that the reader has an undergraduate understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics, in addition to the mechanics of materials, material science, and physical chemistry. Cryogenic Heat Management: Technology and Applications for Science and Industry will be a valuable guide for those researching, teaching, or working with low-temperature or cryogenic systems, in addition to postgraduates studying the topic. Key features: Presents simplified but useful and practical equations that can be applied in estimating performance and design of energy-efficient systems in low-temperature systems or cryogenics Contains practical approaches and advanced design materials for insulation, shields/anchors, cryogen vessels/pipes, calorimeters, cryogenic heat switches, cryostats, current leads, and RF couplers Provides a comprehensive introduction to the necessary theory and models needed for solutions to common difficulties and illustrates the engineering examples with more than 300 figures

Book excerpt: This volume provides an updated understanding of the progress and current problems in the interplay between fundamental physics, astrophysics and cosmology. In the last years, the cross section between these fields has been increasing, both at the theoretical and experimental levels: particle physics experiments, astronomical observations, space satellite data. Such interplay has fruitfully influenced research activity setting up Astrofundamental physics.Topics covered in this volume are: early universe, large scale structure of the universe, dark matter problem, cosmic microwave background radiation, gravitational wave astronomy and neutrino astrophysics. The inter-relation between these topics is important and a source of problems at the frontiers of present knowledge and experimental limits. Latest available data are constraining theory and models in these topics. The book reviews achievements, confronts theory and models with observations and provides information on the latest developments and discussions on future prospects. It also includes a section on stellar spectroscopy and spectrophotometry which covers Daniel Chalonge's work as well as present progress and future prospects in these fields.

Book excerpt: The workshop on The Cosmology of Extra Dimensions and Varying Fundamental Constants, which was part of JENAM 2002, was held at the Physics Department of the University of Porto (FCUP) from the 3rd to the 5th of September 2002. It was regularly attended by about 110 participants, of which 65 were officially registered in the VFC workshop, while the others came from the rest of the JENAM workshops. There were also a few science correspondents from the national and international press. During the 3 days of the scientific programme, 8 Invited Reviews and 30 Oral Communications were presented. The speakers came from 11 different European countries, and also from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Japan and the U.S.A. There were also speakers from six Portuguese research institutions, and nine of the speak ers were Ph.D. students. The contributions are presented in these proceedings in chronological order. The workshop brought together string theorists, particle physicists, theoretical and observational cosmologists, relativists and observational astrophysicists. It was generally agreed that this inter-disciplinarity was the greatest strength of the work shop, since it provided people coming into this very recent topic from the various different backgrounds with an opportunity to understand each other's language and thereby gain a more solid understanding of the overall picture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second in a brand-new revealing series of the new and fully proven 5-dimensional quantum physical universe! The big-bang physics and philosophy are now completely disproved by the particle accelerator, in the absence of alleged particles! The universe has now been proven by scientists and by the particle accelerator down there in Cern! This evidence points only in one direction, towards a universe consisting only of energetic oscillating fields, and a most strange matter, and absolutely no form of physical particles! This book is a sequel to 'Rediscovering the Fifth Dimension'! These two books will explain you the entire new 5-dimensional quantum physical universe, consisting only of energetic oscillating fields and a very wondrous substance! Together, it adds up absolutely everything that we can see, discover and detect! The very active universal engine room, the place where absolutely everything of physical actions unfolds, consists of 5 very active dimensions! Outside, there is what you might call, 'quiet'! Only the deep mysteries of quantum physics can give you the answer to the remaining dimensions besides! All of the active physical actions that only take place in the very active engine room, are quantum physical actions! It is only these 5 quantum physical dimensions that are actually the active universal engine room, and it is only the two outers of these 5 dimensions, that are the driving force of the 5-dimensional very active quantum physical universe! The two most exciting dimensions in the active engine room are the 5th and the 4th dimensions! Therein we find just the right quantum physics and these two books will convince you of that! They just need to be read and understood! The books will explain to you about the real creation of the universe, and will explain to you the real inflation and how it develops! The new expansion law will be explained, something that drives inflation and expansion in the universe! Universal gravity is explained in the first and fundamental book, along with how gravity creates and powers this quantum physical universe! You will be explained how and what atoms basically are, along with the Higgs fields! The Higgs fields are very special! Because the matter is very special in this quantum physical universe, in which there are no forms of 100% physical particles whatsoever! A totally particle-less universe with only energetic oscillating fields and the matter from all the Higgs fields!
