Book Synopsis Accelerating Transportation Project and Program Delivery by : Dennis Keck
Download or read book Accelerating Transportation Project and Program Delivery written by Dennis Keck and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2010 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NCHRP Report 662 describes how selected transportation agencies have reduced the time required to complete the project delivery process. This process takes new or renewed transportation facilities and services from conception to completion, ready for users. Project delivery is a primary indicator of an agency's effectiveness. Individual highway and other transportation projects are developed under programs intended to implement agency and legislative initiatives and other public policy. The way programs are organized and managed can determine the speed and efficiency of project development. Accelerating program functions can speed up project delivery. This report describes the experiences of eight state departments of transportation (DOTs) that made improvements in their project delivery and the lessons to be learned from their experiences. The information will be useful to DOT managers seeking to ensure that their agencies' organization, policies, and program operations facilitate project delivery.

Book Synopsis State Department of Transportation Fleet Replacement Management Practices by : Paul T. Lauria
Download or read book State Department of Transportation Fleet Replacement Management Practices written by Paul T. Lauria and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2014 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report identifies the current state of the practice regarding fleet replacement management and financing methods by departments of transportation (DOTs). A primary objective of this study is to identify methods currently used to manage asset replacement, including the financing of replacement expenditures. The report also provides a discussion of the perceived strengths and weaknesses of different management and financing methods. Information used in this study was acquired through a review of the literature and a survey of DOT representatives in all states. Paul T. Lauria, Mercury Associates, Inc. and Donald T. Lauria, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, collected and synthesized the information and wrote the report. The members of the topic panel are acknowledged on the preceding page. This synthesis is an immediately useful document that records the practices that were acceptable with the limitations of the knowledge available at the time of its preparation. As progress in research and practice continues, new knowledge will be added to that now at hand."--Preface.

Book Synopsis International Encyclopedia of Transportation by :
Download or read book International Encyclopedia of Transportation written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-05-13 with total page 4418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an increasingly globalised world, despite reductions in costs and time, transportation has become even more important as a facilitator of economic and human interaction; this is reflected in technical advances in transportation systems, increasing interest in how transportation interacts with society and the need to provide novel approaches to understanding its impacts. This has become particularly acute with the impact that Covid-19 has had on transportation across the world, at local, national and international levels. Encyclopedia of Transportation, Seven Volume Set - containing almost 600 articles - brings a cross-cutting and integrated approach to all aspects of transportation from a variety of interdisciplinary fields including engineering, operations research, economics, geography and sociology in order to understand the changes taking place. Emphasising the interaction between these different aspects of research, it offers new solutions to modern-day problems related to transportation. Each of its nine sections is based around familiar themes, but brings together the views of experts from different disciplinary perspectives. Each section is edited by a subject expert who has commissioned articles from a range of authors representing different disciplines, different parts of the world and different social perspectives. The nine sections are structured around the following themes: Transport Modes; Freight Transport and Logistics; Transport Safety and Security; Transport Economics; Traffic Management; Transport Modelling and Data Management; Transport Policy and Planning; Transport Psychology; Sustainability and Health Issues in Transportation. Some articles provide a technical introduction to a topic whilst others provide a bridge between topics or a more future-oriented view of new research areas or challenges. The end result is a reference work that offers researchers and practitioners new approaches, new ways of thinking and novel solutions to problems. All-encompassing and expertly authored, this outstanding reference work will be essential reading for all students and researchers interested in transportation and its global impact in what is a very uncertain world. Provides a forward looking and integrated approach to transportation Updated with future technological impacts, such as self-driving vehicles, cyber-physical systems and big data analytics Includes comprehensive coverage Presents a worldwide approach, including sets of comparative studies and applications
