Book excerpt: In the Kingdom of Shengxiao a tradition has been carried on for centuries, the Annual Shengxiao Games. The Kingdom of Shengxiao was created by the Gods for the first twelve animals that won the Challenges of the Five Earthly Elements of Water, Fire, Metal, Earth, Wood. Their purpose was to guard the Heavenly Gates from enemies. When the murder of one of the Families’ High Elders takes place, a Key is released for another family to claim, this also meant that all Twelve Keys had now been challenged. To protect the Kingdom, it is decreed that the games be changed back to the original Dragon Games which were fought to the death leaving only one winner. Only those who belonged to the Dragonian Clan could make a challenge for the Key. A Prince who is traitor to his father the King, a Prince who does not know he is a Prince, becomes the King’s Spy, and a cousin of the King who wants the Crown are the main challengers for the Key. The Water Element Game is the first of the challenges to take place resulting in an unexpected winner. With four challenges remaining, the King’s Spy must do everything he can to win the Games and the Kingdom for his King. AK Sharma is a published poet, writer of the Arlo the Ant children’s book series, and author of her debut fantasy fiction novel The Twelve Keys. This is the first book of the ‘Kingdom’ series based on the Chinese Zodiac [Shengxiao in Mandarin]. A broadcaster with the BBC for six years, Anita’s passion for the written word has finally been brought to life through her first novel. The inspiration for the novel comes from spending over eight years living and working in China. Anita travelled to over thirteen different cities and was able to discover and experience the rich culture that China has to offer. With two grown up daughters and two young grandsons, Anita fulfils her passion for writing in-between travelling for work and spending time with her family. With one of her ‘bucket-list’ dreams realised with The Twelve Keys, the second book of the series is now in the process of being written, so watch this space. Trauma recovery is tricky; however, there are several key principles that can help make the process safe and effective. This book gives self help readers, therapy clients, and therapists alike the skills to understand and implement eight keys to successful trauma healing: mindful identification of what is helpful, recognizing survival, having the option to not remember, creating a supportive inner dialogue, forgiving not being able to stop the trauma, understanding and sharing shame, finding your own recovery pace; mobilizing your body, and helping others. This is not another book promoting a new method or type of treatment; rather, it is a necessary adjunct to self-help and professional recovery programs. After reading this book, readers will be able to recognize their own individual needs and evaluate whether those needs are being met. They will have the tools necessary to put themselves in the drivers seat, navigating their own safe road to recovery.

Book excerpt: Locks and Keys throughout the Ages is widely considered the best book ever written on the history and development of locks. It is illustrated throughout with photos from the famous and extensive Lips' Collection. It was written in 1957 by Vincent J.M. Eras, the director of one of the most respected and important lock manufacturing companies in the world at that time, the Lips' Safe and Lock Manufacturing Company (now part of the ASSA ABLOY Group, along with Yale, Chubb, and many other once independent manufacturers). The author was not only a master locksmith who held several important patents, but he was also an avid collector and was passionate about the history and development of locking mechanisms. His extensive knowledge of the field comes across on every page. In fact, Eras had been in the lock manufacturing business for 58 years before he wrote this book. In the preface he states: "I consider it a gratifying task to place on record my experiences and through this book save them from oblivion. At the same time an excellent opportunity is presented to show the reader my collection of antique and modern locks - the tangible result of more than 50 years travelling, searching and study in many countries". In over 280 black-and-white photos and drawings Vincent Eras brings us on a grand tour of the development of locks from prehistoric to modern times and also explains to us, in words and illustrations, how their mechanisms work. This is a high-quality hardcover reprint of the 1957 edition of the book done by special arrangement with ASSA ABLOY. The typeface has been completely re-done and the photographs have been corrected using the latest digital correction technology. The quality is equal to and, in many cases, better than the original 1957 edition. A reprint of this book was done in the UK in the 1970s but the quality was poor. Artisan Ideas is very glad to be able to make this fascinating book available to the public again. Hardcover, 184 pages, 284 black-and-white photos and designs.

While there are books written about the historical Hekate, there is a lack of information applying this knowledge for personal development and practicing witchcraft. Keeping Her Keys blends the ‘keys’ of personal development, magick and the ancient goddess, Hekate, together. Topics include the power of prayer, how to create sacred space, and guidance on spell crafting. In the final chapter readers can perform an optional self-initiation to become a Keeper of Her Keys.
