Ce thème de recherche se positionne à la fois vis à vis de champs tels que la communauté de pratique, le storytelling, la didactique professionnelle, la gestion des risques ou le raisonnement à base de cas. Il présente deux intérêts : Pédagogique : ces récits expérimentaux sont couramment utilisés (plus d'1 situation de formation observée sur 3), et permettent le transfert et la construction de nouvelles ressources grâce à la confrontation des expériences. Ces ressources sont des savoirs épisodiques et peuvent être utilisés pour analyser la situation, construire une réponse, ou développer des savoirs réflexifs.Opérationnel pour la gestion des situations à risques : en situation de résolution de problèmes, l'individu peut évoquer des épisodes qui participent positivement à la gestion de la situation (lors de 2 situations sur 3). On constate également que plus un épisode est proche de l'individu (un épisode vécu étant plus proche qu'un épisode partagé au sein du collectif, lui même plus proche qu'un épisode proposé par l'organisation), plus il supporte des savoirs épisodiques utiles dans la situation à gérer. L'intérêt de cette thèse est d'identifier le partage du récit expérientiel comme une pratique informelle déjà en place, peu coûteuse et utile à la formation et à la gestion des risques. Elle mérite donc à la fois d'être considérée scientifiquement comme un outil à part entière dans la construction des ressources face aux situations critiques, et d'être développée au sein des organisations .

La démarche et les outils du retour d'expérience ont été peu à peu appliqués aux défaillances d'origine humaine et organisationnelle, avec pour objectif d'améliorer la gestion des risques par la définition de consignes, la modification de procédés etc. Bien que la mise en oeuvre et la conduite du retour d'expérience constitue une pratique qui se généralise au sein des entreprises et qui s'appuie sur quatre grandes étapes (collecte, analyse, capitalisation et réutilisation de li'information) il n'existe pas douvrage de référence faisant le point sur la définition du REX et des fondements conceptuels sur lesquels il repose. L'objectif de cet ouvrage est donc de présenter un état de l'art concernant la définition et la mise en place du retour d'expérience appliqué à la gestion des risques au sein des entreprises en abordant, dans la première partie, les fondements théoriques et méthodologiques du retour d'expérience empruntés à la fois aux sciences de l'éducation, aux sciences de l'information et de la communication et aux sciences de l'ingénieur. La seconde partie présente, quant à elle, la mise en place proprement dite du retour dexpérience : elle permet dintroduire les pré-requis nécessaires à l'établissement d'un retour d'expérience dans l'entreprise et de comprendre la démarche de mise en oeuvre. Un exemple de méthode de retour d'expérience qui intègre une phase d'analyse de risque est aussi proposé. Enfin, la conclusion aborde la contribution et les limites du retour d'expérience à la gestion des risques et présente les perspectives d'évolution du REX.
