The physico-cultural base of the region is determined and analyzed in the GIS environs. LISS and Landsat imagery are used to understand the process of urban sprawl taking place from 1972 to 2004. Field survey and ground verifications have helped to analyze inter and intra-infrastructural development taking place in the region. Lastly, Land Suitability is carried out using Spatial Analyst Arc View GIS by weighted overlay method. On the basis of this analysis, [a] futuristic model of urban growth is proposed.
