Download or read book Forty Years of Uranium Resources, Production and Demand in Perspective written by OECD Nuclear Energy Agency and published by OECD Publishing. This book was released on 2006 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "Red Book", jointly prepared by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency and the International Atomic Energy Agency, is a recognised world reference source on the uranium industry. This publication collates and analyses key information drawn from the twenty editions of the Red Book published between 1965 and 2004, in order to set out a comprehensive review of developments in the world uranium industry from the birth of civilian nuclear energy through to the beginning of the 21st century. It summarises developments in the major uranium-producing countries and topics covered include: installed nuclear capacity, reactor-related uranium requirements, market price, exploration, resources, production, natural and enriched uranium inventories, thorium, mine start-up and closure histories, environmental aspects of uranium mining and processing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the first International Atomic Energy Agency projection of uranium supply and demand to 2050 and provides an understanding of how some alternative uranium supply scenarios could evolve over the period. The analysis is based on the current knowledge of uranium resources and production facilities, and takes into account the premise that they can operate with minimal environmental impact and employ the best practices in planning, operations, decommissioning and closure.

Book Synopsis HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT by : Domenico Grasso
Download or read book HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT written by Domenico Grasso and published by EOLSS Publications. This book was released on 2009-08-11 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hazardous Waste Management theme is a component of Encyclopedia of Environmental and Ecological Sciences, Engineering and Technology Resources in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty one Encyclopedias. Hazardous waste definitions differ from one country to another. A generic definition might center on wastes or combinations of wastes that pose a substantial present or potential hazard to humans or the environment, in part because they are not readily degradable, persistent in the environment and are deleterious to human health or natural resources. Most hazardous wastes are produced in the manufacturing of products for domestic consumption or further industrial application. The Theme on Hazardous Waste Management with contributions from distinguished experts in the field, discusses ecological risk, hazardous waste issues and management. This volume is aimed at the following five major target audiences: University and College students Educators, Professional practitioners, Research personnel and Policy analysts, managers, and decision makers and NGOs.

Book Synopsis Integrated Assessment of Sustainable Energy Systems in China, The China Energy Technology Program by : B. Eliasson
Download or read book Integrated Assessment of Sustainable Energy Systems in China, The China Energy Technology Program written by B. Eliasson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 834 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the China Energy Technology Program (CETP) has been to take a holistic view of electricity generation in China with special emphasis on the economic and environmental impact of technology. The program is a collaborative effort involving industry, as leader and manager of the program; researchers from academia and national research institutes; and the stakeholders--users or planners of the electricity market. A power plant, no matter of what kind, is not a solitary unit, which may be considered independently from its environment. Modem society has been built on easy access to power; it is now asking for environmentally clean power. Clean power is the pathway that will lead to sustainability, an extension of the concept of an environmentally clean future. Progress toward a sustainable technical solution must include an evaluation of the environmental, economic, and societal impact of electrical power generation. To achieve the goals of the CETP program, we wanted to go beyond what had been done in similar programs in the past. Its organizers wanted the program not only to evaluate the overall impact of electricity generation, but also do it in such a way that program results could be applied and adapted to different circumstances, including countries other than China. For this purpose we have developed a methodology and presented it on a DVD disc, which the reader will find inside the back cover of this book. The methodology is conceived to allow insights into the function of the program on various levels.

Book Synopsis Evolutionary and Revolutionary Technologies for Mining by : National Research Council
Download or read book Evolutionary and Revolutionary Technologies for Mining written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2002-04-14 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT) of the U. S. Department of Energy commissioned the National Research Council (NRC) to undertake a study on required technologies for the Mining Industries of the Future Program to complement information provided to the program by the National Mining Association. Subsequently, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health also became a sponsor of this study, and the Statement of Task was expanded to include health and safety. The overall objectives of this study are: (a) to review available information on the U.S. mining industry; (b) to identify critical research and development needs related to the exploration, mining, and processing of coal, minerals, and metals; and (c) to examine the federal contribution to research and development in mining processes.
Book Synopsis Medical Isotope Production Without Highly Enriched Uranium by : National Research Council
Download or read book Medical Isotope Production Without Highly Enriched Uranium written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2009-06-27 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the product of a congressionally mandated study to examine the feasibility of eliminating the use of highly enriched uranium (HEU2) in reactor fuel, reactor targets, and medical isotope production facilities. The book focuses primarily on the use of HEU for the production of the medical isotope molybdenum-99 (Mo-99), whose decay product, technetium-99m3 (Tc-99m), is used in the majority of medical diagnostic imaging procedures in the United States, and secondarily on the use of HEU for research and test reactor fuel. The supply of Mo-99 in the U.S. is likely to be unreliable until newer production sources come online. The reliability of the current supply system is an important medical isotope concern; this book concludes that achieving a cost difference of less than 10 percent in facilities that will need to convert from HEU- to LEU-based Mo-99 production is much less important than is reliability of supply.
