With high hopes of attracting new comers, cutting back on traffic congestion, and an increase in revenue brought to the city, the new station should represent an important landmark for the extreme investment put into the light rail to ensure the success of the latest transportation system. Similarly, grand pavilions, arcades, and market places in Europe strive for extreme buildings to house consumers and create an experience while passing through one space to get to another. This overwhelming experience was my primary goal in the design of the light rail. Charlotte's light rail station should express the importance of the new transportation system and get people excited about having this experience come into the city. The parti of the design is separated into three distinct bays, the largest bay being the central atrium space with a clear destination of the tracks or the street, depending on which direction one is coming from. The building also offers small distractions containing retail spaces, dining, and a complete exhibition space containing the thorough history of Charlotte and the historic trolley car. For the everyday hustle and bustle of the city the building still offers the clear organization to get a travel to their destination as quickly as possible, for the tourist or the curious, the space offers much to do and discover. The building is also adaptable to whatever future business may occupy that space, i.e. a fresh market in the core of the atrium. The parti also contains an anchor piece, the abstract sculpture piece that lets everyone know where they are within the city or refer to as a landmark. The sculpture piece offers a grand view of uptown Charlotte from its third floor reception hall, surrounded with glazing the tower illuminates at night to establish its presence. The design fully follows the desire to reflect and create a new public space and bring importance to Charlotte's latest upgrade.
