Download or read book The Natural History of the Crustacea written by Martin Thiel and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-03-27 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the eighth volume of a ten-volume series on The Natural History of the Crustacea. The volume examines Evolution and Biogeography, and the first part of this volume is entirely dedicated to the explanation of the origins and successful establishment of the Crustacea in the oceans. In the second part of the book, the biogeography of the Crustacea is explored in order to infer how they conquered different biomes globally while adapting to a wide range of aquatic and terrestrial conditions. The final section examines more general patterns and processes, and the chapters offer useful insight into the future of crustaceans.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The system of multicellular animals presented here is an alternative to the traditional classification system. In a new approach to the phylogenetic order, this book strives for an objective systematization of the metazoa, seeking a new path in the field of academic research and teaching.
Book Synopsis Evolution and Phylogeny of Pancrustacea by : Frederick R. Schram
Download or read book Evolution and Phylogeny of Pancrustacea written by Frederick R. Schram and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-11-02 with total page 873 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scientific understanding of arthropod phylogeny and evolution has changed significantly in recent decades. One of the most momentous alterations involved crustaceans, which are not a monophyletc group, but are part of a larger group along with insects: Pancrustacea. The old ideas surrounding crustacean evolution have served scientists well for many years; it is now time to turn toward new research by embracing the results derived from investigations conducted largely within this century. For example, new definitions have arisen from sources across several fields of study, and Frederick R. Schram and Stefan Koenemann have created a book that explores paleobiodiversity and the diversity of modern body plans. Developments within ontogenetic studies continue to generate remarkable insights into crustaceomorph evolution in regard to patterns of embryology and a revolution in the application of development genetics. Phylogeny techniques of analysis and new sources of data derived from molecular sequencing and genetic studies have forced scientists to consider new hypotheses concerning the interrelationships of all the pancrustaceans, both the crustaceomorphs and Hexapoda. Yet, some fossil groups still remain enigmatic (Thylacocephala). Despite this, research into fossils (even if incompletely understood) fills in gaps of our knowledge of paleobiodiversity, and it's useful for many things, including analyzing the origin and early evolution of Hexapoda. Evolution and Phylogeny of Pancrustacea demonstrates the use of multiple alternative hypotheses and other techniques through the well-executed presentation of diverse data sources involving Pancrustacea. Readers are left with clues to great mysteries, including the possible pathways of evolution within marine arthropods.
Book Synopsis Cambrian Brachiopoda (Classic Reprint) by : Charles D. Walcott
Download or read book Cambrian Brachiopoda (Classic Reprint) written by Charles D. Walcott and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-08-15 with total page 878 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cambrian Brachiopoda This monograph includes the description of 44 genera, 15 subgenera, 47-7 species, and 59 varieties of Cambrian Brachiopoda, and of 3 genera, 1 subgenus, 42 Species, and 1 variety of Ordovician Brachiopoda. Of the Cambrian forms, 10 genera, 2 subgenera, 21 species, and 1 variety persist into the Ordovician. (see pp. 98 - 113 for complete tables giving distribution.) In this paper the Brachiopoda are treated in three ways - historically, geologically, and zoologically. Historically the treatment comprises (1) a bibliography and (2) a table of synonymic reference, giving a completely cross-referenced list of described Species with the present generic and specific reference of each. Geologically the distribution of the Brachi Opoda is considered under the following headings: (1) General geographic and stratigraphic distribution; (2) detailed geographic distribution; (3) detailed stratigraphic distribution; (4) habitat; and (5) fossil localities. Zoologically the discussion covers (1) the physical characters of the Brachiopoda; (2) their distribution; (3) their evolution; and (4) their classification. Lastly come the detailed descriptions of genera and species and the illustrative plates. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Earth and Life written by John A. Talent and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-06-28 with total page 1104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on the broad pattern of increasing biodiversity through time, and recurrent events of minor and major ecosphere reorganization. Intense scrutiny is devoted to the pattern of physical (including isotopic), sedimentary and biotic circumstances through the time intervals during which life crises occurred. These events affected terrestrial, lacustrine and estuarine ecosystems, locally and globally, but have affected continental shelf ecosystems and even deep ocean ecosystems. The pattern of these events is the backdrop against which modelling the pattern of future environmental change needs to be evaluated.
