Shanahn Smith was trapped in an immoral lifestyle of homosexuality, drug addiction and witchcraft. Through God's grace, Shanahn was able to break free from the bondages of debauchery, becoming a new creation in Christ. Book Synopsis Down From Above, Up From Below by : Jane Madeline Gold
Download or read book Down From Above, Up From Below written by Jane Madeline Gold and published by Epigraph Publishing. This book was released on 2021-02-14 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book that has been greatly needed since Lord Pentland's passing in 1984. Among the many hundreds of pupils whom he served and led as our teacher of the Gurdjieff way, who would write it, who could write it? Madeline Gold has proved able, and more than able. Working as Lord Pentland's secretary for some years, and always his pupil and friend, she was formidably receptive to the wisdom he offered daily through word and incident, all the while remaining strongly her own person - questioning, responding, suffering, maturing. As if there were a cuneiform tablet somewhere in her, it was all marked down and now finds its voice - her clear, uncluttered, astute voice - in these pages. Missing from transcripts of meetings even with great teachers is the immediate perception of their presence, far and away the most important thing at the time. What really was it like to be around such a person? Madeline Gold somehow finds the way. This is what it was like to be around him. A radiant teacher; a radiant book. - Roger Lipsey, author of Gurdjieff Reconsidered
Download or read book As Above, So Below written by Rudy Rucker and published by Forge Books. This book was released on 2003-11-15 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peter Bruegel's paintings---a peasant wedding in a barn, hunters in the snow, a rollicking street festival, and many others---have long defined our idea of everyday life in sixteenth century Europe. They are classic icons of a time and place in much the same way as Norman Rockwell's depictions of twentieth-century America. We know relatively little about Bruegel, but after years of research, novelist Rudy Rucker has built upon what is known and has created for us the life and world of a true master who never got old. In sixteen chapters, each headed by a reproduction of one of the famous works, Rucker brings Bruegel's painter's progress and his colorful world to vibrant life, doing for Bruegel what the best-selling Girl with a Pearl Earring did for Vermeer. We follow the artist from the winding streets of Antwerp and Brussels to the glowing skies and decaying monuments of Rome and back. He and his friends, the cartographer Ortelius and Williblad Cheroo, an American Indian, are as vivid on the page as the multifarious denizens of Bruegel's unforgettable canvases. Here is a world of conflict, change, and discovery, a world where Carnival battles Lent every day, preserved for us in paint by the engaging genius you will meet in the pages of As Above, So Below. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Book Synopsis Peacemaking from Above, Peace from Below by : Norrin M. Ripsman
Download or read book Peacemaking from Above, Peace from Below written by Norrin M. Ripsman and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2016-05-31 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Peacemaking from Above, Peace from Below, Norrin M. Ripsman explains how regional rivals make peace and how outside actors can encourage regional peacemaking. Through a qualitative empirical analysis of all the regional rivalries that terminated in peace treaties in the twentieth century—including detailed case studies of the Franco-German, Egyptian-Israeli, and Israeli-Jordanian peace settlements—Ripsman concludes that efforts to encourage peacemaking that focus on changing the attitudes of the rival societies or democratizing the rival polities to enable societal input into security policy are unlikely to achieve peace.Prior to a peace treaty, he finds, peacemaking is driven by states, often against intense societal opposition, for geostrategic reasons or to preserve domestic power. After a formal treaty has been concluded, the stability of peace depends on societal buy-in through mechanisms such as bilateral economic interdependence, democratization of former rivals, cooperative regional institutions, and transfers of population or territory. Society is largely irrelevant to the first stage but is critical to the second. He draws from this analysis a lesson for contemporary policy. Western governments and international organizations have invested heavily in efforts to promote Israeli-Palestinian and Indo-Pakistani peace by promoting democratic values, economic exchanges, and cultural contacts between the opponents. Such attempts to foster peace are likely to waste resources until such time as formal peace treaties are concluded between longtime adversaries.

Book excerpt: Reinhard Jirgl's strikingly individual novel The Fire Above, the Mountain Below demonstrates that he is not only unorthodox in his approach to language, but also difficult to pin down in terms of any genre. Weaving together elements of crime story, Cold War espionage, family tragedy, and a dystopian future, he creates a tapestry of fragile humanity and menacing inhumanity. The investigation of a series of gruesome killings takes a detective inspector into explorations of a secret intelligence programme in former East Germany and the role of a family with a tragic history. The more is uncovered, the more disorienting it becomes, and the reader is drawn into a complex web of discovery and suppression.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most salespeople work hard to become proficient in reaching the frontline managers in their markets. However, a salesperson who wishes to achieve long-lasting success with a client will learn how to also appeal to top-level executives from an “above the line” perspective. Master sales trainer Skip Miller shows how to simultaneously sell to both the frontline manager as well as the executive who is more concerned with profit/loss indicators such as ROI, time saved, risk lowered, and productivity improved – a strategy used by Google, Apple, Cisco WebEx, and other powerhouses. In Selling Above and Below the Line, you will learn how to: Create energy by including executives early in the sales process. Ask the right questions and pinpoint big-picture financial needs. Keep “below the line” managers from feeling bypassed. Uncover value propositions that target each set of decision-makers. Sales that seem locked in will stall or go dark. Customers who have been loyal to you suddenly back out of the relationship due to decisions made above the manager’s head. This often could have been avoided had the salesperson been intentional to sell both the technical and financial fit. In Selling Above and Below the Line, learn to effectively communicate both, leading to more successful and lucrative deals than ever before.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this collection of her finest and best-known short essays, Natalia Ginzburg explores both the mundane details and inescapable catastrophes of personal life with the grace and wit that have assured her rightful place in the pantheon of classic mid-century authors. Whether she writes of the loss of a friend, Cesare Pavese; or what is inexpugnable of World War II; or the Abruzzi, where she and her first husband lived in forced residence under Fascist rule; or the importance of silence in our society; or her vocation as a writer; or even a pair of worn-out shoes, Ginzburg brings to her reflections the wisdom of a survivor and the spare, wry, and poetically resonant style her readers have come to recognize. "A glowing light of modern Italian literature . . . Ginzburg's magic is the utter simplicity of her prose, suddenly illuminated by one word that makes a lightning streak of a plain phrase. . . . As direct and clean as if it were carved in stone, it yet speaks thoughts of the heart.' — The New York Times Book Review
