The number of men who have at one time or another filled positions which entitle them to a place in this galaxy is so very great, that merely to record their names would itself fill several hundred printed pages. Not only therefore is the collective representation which has been attempted in these pages necessarily incomplete, but from similar necessity the life-records given are in the main very brief.
