Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report covers the validation of a soil stabilization index system which was developed earlier. The index system was originated to aid military engineers in selecting the appropriate type and amount of soil stabilizer to use in pavement construction. A comprehensive review of literature in the soil stabilization field was used to initially develop the index system. Laboratory tests and discussions with experts in soil stabilization were used in the validation phase reported herein. Based on these tests and discussions, several changes have been made to the initial index system, although the original concept has not been altered. The index system is entered with easily determined soil properties and flow charts are followed to arrive at the most suitable stabilizer. Subsystems containing appropriate tests are used to determine specific amounts of stabilizers. Use factors, construction factors and environmental factors are also considered in the decision-making process. Recommendations are included for additional verification studies of the index system.

Book excerpt: Essential technical information for building on expansive soils--complete with practical, proven design methods. Expansive Soils examines factors that influence the design offoundations and pavements built on expansive soils, and exploreskey design procedures and remedial measures that address thesefactors effectively. Backed by the authors' extensive research andexperience --including interviews with practicing engineers workingwith expansive soils --this authoritative volume is an importantreference text for geotechnical and foundation engineers, geologists, construction professionals, and students. Easy to understand and apply, Expansive Soils contains: * Site investigation techniques for identification andclassification of expansive soils * Heave prediction methods using different types of data --withrigorous treatment of soil suction theory and measurement, oedometer tests, and more * Alternative design procedures for drilled pier and slab-on-gradefoundations, highway and airfield pavements * Treatment and chemical stabilization techniques --including salttreatment; moisture barriers; lime and cement stabilization; andother procedures * Remedial measures such as drainage control, and removal withreplacement and compaction control * Sample problems illustrating practical applications.

This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the latest advances, innovations and applications in the field of waste management and environmental geomechanics as presented by leading researchers, engineers and practitioners at the International Conference on Sustainable Waste Management through Design (IC_SWMD), held in Ludhiana (Punjab), India on November 2-3, 2018. Providing a unique overview of new directions, and opportunities for sustainable and resilient design approaches to protect infrastructure and the environment, it discusses diverse topics related to civil engineering and construction aspects of the resource management cycle, from the minimization of waste, through the eco-friendly re-use and processing of waste materials, the management and disposal of residual wastes, to water treatments and technologies. It also encompasses strategies for reducing construction waste through better design, improved recovery, re-use, more efficient resource management and the performance of materials recovered from wastes. The contributions were selected by means of a rigorous peer-review process and highlight many exciting ideas that will spur novel research directions and foster multidisciplinary collaboration among different waste management specialists.

Book Synopsis Foundation Engineering for Expansive Soils by : John D. Nelson
Download or read book Foundation Engineering for Expansive Soils written by John D. Nelson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-02-09 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Your guide to the design and construction of foundations on expansive soils Foundation Engineering for Expansive Soils fills a significant gap in the current literature by presenting coverage of the design and construction of foundations for expansive soils. Written by an expert author team with nearly 70 years of combined industry experience, this important new work is the only modern guide to the subject, describing proven methods for identifying and analyzing expansive soils and developing foundation designs appropriate for specific locations. Expansive soils are found worldwide and are the leading cause of damage to structural roads. The primary problem that arises with regard to expansive soils is that deformations are significantly greater than in non-expansive soils and the size and direction of the deformations are difficult to predict. Now, Foundation Engineering for Expansive Soils gives engineers and contractors coverage of this subject from a design perspective, rather than a theoretical one. Plus, they'll have access to case studies covering the design and construction of foundations on expansive salts from both commercial and residential projects. Provides a succinct introduction to the basics of expansive soils and their threats Includes information on both shallow and deep foundation design Profiles soil remediation techniques, backed-up with numerous case studies Covers the most commonly used laboratory tests and site investigation techniques used for establishing the physical properties of expansive soils If you're a practicing civil engineer, geotechnical engineer or contractor, geologist, structural engineer, or an upper-level undergraduate or graduate student of one of these disciplines, Foundation Engineering for Expansive Soils is a must-have addition to your library of resources.
