Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1841 edition. Excerpt: ... A TOUR WITHOUT TRAVELLING. The simplest of all tours and the most easily performed, are those in vhich there is no travelling. This may appear rather mysterious to the lover of genuine adventure. I will therefore endeavour to elucidate my assertion. I will suppose, that on a beautiful spring morning, you are gazing complacently through on open window, sipping your coffee, and eating your rolls. The songs of birds, and the odour of flowers, are wafted to you by the soft gales of opening day, and inspire you with a desire to travel. Where shall it be?--To Germany, Switzerland, the South Sea Islands, or wherever you please?--You have two ways of accomplishing your wish. By the first mode, you procure a chaise and post horses; clap youf writing materials into your pocket; embrace your wife, if you have one; jump into the carriage; crack goes the whip, and off you start. This is the most generally approved style of travelling, and there are some old fashioned people, who obstinately persist in thinking, that no one can otherwise be a traveller. We flatter ourselves that we shall be able to conquer this vulgar prejudice, by describing a second method. You begin then by enfolding yourself in your loosest robe de chambre, and gliding into your largest slippers. You then fall quietly into your softest arm chair; and require nothing further to make--for example--the tour of Switzerland, than a well written book, which graphically describes the country. It may happen, that, besides lighting on a spiritedly written tour, you have the good luck to procure for your companion a man in whom you place the utmost confidence, and who will not desert you at the first stage. Having commenced so auspiciously, you follow your friend without fear of being...
Book Synopsis Trilithon by : Ancient Order of Druids in America
Download or read book Trilithon written by Ancient Order of Druids in America and published by Elphin Press. This book was released on 2014-03-29 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trilithon: The Journal of the Ancient Order of Druids in America is the official journal of the AODA. In this first volume, published in 2014, you can find inspiration for walking the path of druidry today, discussions of revival druidry past and present, and inspiration for practicing AODA druidry. Like Revival Druidry, the topics in our inaugural issue are diverse and represent a range of perspectives and paths. Starting in our roots, we have two articles focusing on the druid revival, including "The Myth of Einigan" by John Michael Greer and a "Blast from the Past" feature from an original ninteenth-century document in its entirety, titled "Letters on Tellurism, Commonly Called Animal Magnetism." These articles represent some of the foundations upon which our tradition is based, and learning more about our roots can influence our practices and knowledge in critical ways. Moving into the core of daily practice, Sara Greer describes devotional practices in detail, providing information on various ways of engaging in devotional activity, tending shrines and altars, providing various offerings, and the question that stumps many of us-what to do with daily devotional practice when one travels. We also have two articles on the Sphere of Protection (SOP); Tracy Glomski provides a fascinating intergration of the sword into the SOP, drawing upon material from the middle ages. Our second article on the SOP, written by Dana Driscoll, examines the energetics and uses for the SOP from her experience. From the realm of the natural world and the ovate path, Paul Angelini encourages us to go out and forage for our own wild foods and medicine and how this foraging practice can seamlessly align with the Earth Path in our curriculum. Dana Wiyninger's "A Local Ogham: Finding Your Area's Sacred Plants" connects natural practice with diviniation; while Daniel Cureton's "Working through the Animals: Intuitive Bone Divnitionation" explores bone divination within Druidry. Now that the readers have some Ogham and bone tools, we can turn to Lexie Devine's "Crane Bags and the Druid Revival: A Personal Journey" where she describes the Druid's crane bag as a working tool and shares the story of her three crane bags.

Download or read book Work and the Nineteenth-Century Press written by Andrew King and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-23 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extending the limits of the award-winning Routledge Handbook to Nineteenth-Century Periodicals and Newspapers (2016) and its companion volume (and also award-winning) Researching the Nineteenth-Century Press: Case Studies (2017), Work and the Nineteenth-Century Press: Living Work for Living People advances our knowledge of how our identities have become inextricably defined by work. The collection’s innovative focus on the nineteenth-century British press’s relationship to work illuminates an area whose effects are still evident today but which has been almost totally neglected hitherto. Offering bold new interpretative frameworks and provocative methodologies in media history and literary studies developed by an exciting group of new and established talent, this volume seeks to set a new research agenda for nineteenth-century interdisciplinary studies.

Book excerpt: After worrying with this situation of 'God' all of my live, I am reconciled that there is no God of the relationship I have always been taught. --'God' started this whole thing with a Big Bang? (Not if he looked anything like us or cared what we do, especially in this pitiable state of evolution). By studying our past we find that Man has always had a sense of longing to be better, someone or something to worship, but he was wise enough to call it what it is: his ideas. This does not encompass the other side of the coin, or dark side of our beings, which I have covered in this book. --We have discovered that we are so small in the whole scheme of things, an infinitesimal amount of energy, (like one grain of sand in the whole desert of all our world). Here we are one small atom in the galaxies of space, temporarily ruled by one set of mammals, does it really make a difference what we learn? --I suppose it does make a difference to us --(not that we can do anything about it, except to try).
