Download or read book Norwich written by Karen Crouse and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-01-23 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The extraordinary story of the small Vermont town that has likely produced more Olympians per capita than any other place in the country, Norwich gives “parents of young athletes a great gift—a glimpse at another way to raise accomplished and joyous competitors” (The Washington Post). In Norwich, Vermont—a charming town of organic farms and clapboard colonial buildings—a culture has taken root that’s the opposite of the hypercompetitive schoolyard of today’s tiger moms and eagle dads. In Norwich, kids aren’t cut from teams. They don’t specialize in a single sport, and they even root for their rivals. What’s more, their hands-off parents encourage them to simply enjoy themselves. Yet this village of roughly three thousand residents has won three Olympic medals and sent an athlete to almost every Winter Olympics for the past thirty years. Now, New York Times reporter and “gifted storyteller” (The Wall Street Journal) Karen Crouse spills Norwich’s secret to raising not just better athletes than the rest of America but happier, healthier kids. And while these “counterintuitive” (Amy Chua, bestselling author of Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother) lessons were honed in the New England snow, parents across the country will find that “Crouse’s message applies beyond a particular town or state” (The Wall Street Journal). If you’re looking for answers about how to raise joyful, resilient kids, let Norwich take you to a place that has figured it out.

Download or read book Drink Vermont written by Liza Gershman and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-10-10 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experience more than ninety breweries, wineries, distilleries, and cideries in Vermont. With Vermont’s thriving spirits industry—the state is home to eighteen distilleries, nearly fifty breweries, and more than a dozen wineries—you can find hard apple cider, whiskey, and everything in between. Drink Vermont is an exploration of the flavors, people, and locations throughout the state. Famous for local resources, like maple syrup, and the stunning colors of the fall foliage, Vermont is the perfect destination for an informative and fun sample of recipes, interviews, and reviews of breweries and distilleries. Traveling north toward the Canadian border, west to the shore of Lake Champlain, into the Northeast Kingdom, through the state’s capital, and the charming small towns of southern Vermont, Gershman takes readers on a visual journey through the seasons as they discover the unique tastes created in the Green Mountain State. Stops along the trip include The Alchemist, maker of the acclaimed Heady Topper (the top beer in America); Hill Farmstead, named the 2015 Best Brewery in the World; and Putney Mountain Winery, where they create wines like Apple Maple, Simply Pear, Rhubarb Blush, Putney Pommeau, Vermont Cassis, and Simply Cranberry using local fruits.
Download or read book Wines of Vermont written by Todd Trzaskos and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2015-09-14 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vermont's extreme climate may not seem ideal for wine production, but industry pioneers are proving otherwise. For nearly half a century, local winemakers developed distinctive fermentation techniques and adopted select crops to withstand icy winters. In 1970, Frank Jedlicka used traditional recipes to make wine with apples, maple and honey. North River and Grand View followed with other orchard and berry fruits. Harrison Lebowitz planted French hybrid grapes on a Lake Champlain island in the 1990s, and soon Vermont hosted some of America's first true cold-climate vineyards. Fresh tastes and resurrected flavors now symbolize the Green Mountain State's ripening wine industry. Todd Trzaskos reveals Vermont's identity as an innovative and maturing wine producer.

Book Synopsis Trivariate Local Lagrange Interpolation and Macro Elements of Arbitrary Smoothness by : Michael Andreas Matt
Download or read book Trivariate Local Lagrange Interpolation and Macro Elements of Arbitrary Smoothness written by Michael Andreas Matt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-05-10 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael A. Matt constructs two trivariate local Lagrange interpolation methods which yield optimal approximation order and Cr macro-elements based on the Alfeld and the Worsey-Farin split of a tetrahedral partition. The first interpolation method is based on cubic C1 splines over type-4 cube partitions, for which numerical tests are given. The second is the first trivariate Lagrange interpolation method using C2 splines. It is based on arbitrary tetrahedral partitions using splines of degree nine. The author constructs trivariate macro-elements based on the Alfeld split, where each tetrahedron is divided into four subtetrahedra, and the Worsey-Farin split, where each tetrahedron is divided into twelve subtetrahedra, of a tetrahedral partition. In order to obtain the macro-elements based on the Worsey-Farin split minimal determining sets for Cr macro-elements are constructed over the Clough-Tocher split of a triangle, which are more variable than those in the literature.

Book Synopsis Lattices with Unique Complements by : Vi_acheslav Nikolaevich Sali_
Download or read book Lattices with Unique Complements written by Vi_acheslav Nikolaevich Sali_ and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1988-12-31 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The class of uniquely complemented lattices properly contains all Boolean lattices. However, no explicit example of a non-Boolean lattice of this class has been found. In addition, the question of whether this class contains any complete non-Boolean lattices remains unanswered. This book focuses on these classical problems of lattice theory and the various attempts to solve them. Requiring no specialized knowledge, the book is directed at researchers and students interested in general algebra and mathematical logic.
