Film historian Michael Temple explores Vigo's intense career and asks why it has had such a long-lasting impact on film culture, not just in France, but also for generations of filmmakers, critics, and moviegoers around the world. Each film is examined under four headings: - social and political context - the making of the film, from conception to release -detailed analysis of narrative structure, main stylistic features and dominant themes - the reception of the film and its critical reputation Accessibly written, this will be essential reading for students, teachers, film enthusiasts and researchers, indeed for anyone who is interested in the cinema as a living art form

Download or read book Accélérer la réduction de la pauvreté en Afrique written by Kathleen Beegle and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2019-10-09 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis The Flight of the Angels by : Alistair Charles Rolls
Download or read book The Flight of the Angels written by Alistair Charles Rolls and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-11-27 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a close study of four novels by Boris Vian. It aims to show how L'Écume des jours, L'Automne à Pékin, L'Herbe rouge and L'Arrache-coeur form a unified and coherent tetralogy. By establishing close links between these four texts, it becomes possible to achieve a more comprehensive understanding, not only of the significance of the tetralogy in exposing a complex and multi-layered novelistic strategy at the heart of the vianesque, but of the individual novels as autonomous creations. An examination of the novels reveals that they are not merely joined to one another via a superficial network of textual similarities (that which I refer to as intratextuality), but that this intertwining is emblematic of a common method of narrative construction. Each Vian novel is dependent, for a thorough understanding of the text to be possible, upon the multiple lines of external influence running through it. The sources of this influence (which I refer to as intertextuality) are located in various major texts of twentieth century literature, anglophone as well as francophone. Thus, in each instance the narrative is driven by a complicated interaction of intratextuality and intertextuality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present collection of essays follows in the wake of recent work in cultural geography challenging the idea that maps are scientifically neutral entities, or that space, unlike time, is immobile. In defining space, place and geography as forms of textuality, the essays collected in this volume examine the ways in which postcolonial and metropolitan literary and filmic texts in French can at once inscribe and produce place and space, and thereby participate in forms of “discursive geographies.” Contributors: François Bon; Alexandre Dauge-Roth; Habiba Deming; Zakaria Fatih; Jeanne Garane; Patricia Geesey; Greg Hainge; Sirène Harb; Jean-Luc Joly; Chantal Kalisa; Michel Laronde; Valérie Loichot; Mary McCullough; Michael O’Riley; Pascale Perraudin; Walter Putnam; Antoine Stéphani; Abdourahman A. Book Synopsis Crispy Stories in the Tropics: Histoires Croustillantes Sous Les Tropiques by : Simon Dinkala
Download or read book Crispy Stories in the Tropics: Histoires Croustillantes Sous Les Tropiques written by Simon Dinkala and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-05-08 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of these stories revolve around the forbidden fruit and the conquering of anothers heart by using a fetish, making him helplessly captivated. There are numerous stories of jealousy, envy, and other natural phenomena. The reader will find some samples of those in this book. Traditionally, a lot of ink, saliva, and even tears have been poured about sex, especially when it is about guilty relations between two lovers, relationships in which at least one of the parties is officially recognized as in a relationship or married to another person. These relationships are commonly and humorously referred to as forbidden fruit by analogy to the legend of the Garden of Eden.

Download or read book Pourquoi Je Dois Mourir Comme J?sus Et Louis Riel? written by Jacques Prince and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
