Book Synopsis Under Satan's Sun by : Georges Bernanos
Download or read book Under Satan's Sun written by Georges Bernanos and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new translation marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of Georges Bernanos's first novel, Under Satan's Sun, a powerful account of intense spiritual struggle that reflects the author's deeply-felt religion. The work develops a theme that persistently inspired Bernanos: the existence of evil as a spiritual force and its dramatic role in human destiny. ø This haunting novel follows the fortunes of a young, gauche, and fervent Catholic priest who is a misfit in the world and in his church, creating scandal and disharmony wherever he turns. His insight into the inner lives of others and his perception of the workings of Satan in the everyday are gifts that fatefully come into play in the priest's chance encounter with a young murderess, whose life and emotions he can see with a dreadful clarity, and whose destiny inexorably becomes entangled with his own.

Download or read book Beware! Satan written by Mehmet Yavuz Seker and published by Tughra Books. This book was released on 2008 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offering a perspective of the world as an arena of assessment and testing, this masterfully illuminating investigation explores the struggle between man and his archenemy, Satan. The book claims that success in life is based on knowing one's enemies and developing strategies. Discussing the attributes of Satan and his methods of approach, this study references Satan's most obvious trait?his declaration of war on humankind?and notes that his deception, whispers, trickery, and diabolical plots can only be effective when human beings display weakness. The only traditional prevention is to lead a pious life without leaving any gaps for the attacks of Satan and his aids, but this examination presents another prescription for protection from Satan's evil?becoming spiritually equipped by attaining inner and outer unity and attaining cohesion between one's heart and actions.

Book Synopsis The Human Satan in Seventeenth-Century English Literature by : Nancy Rosenfeld
Download or read book The Human Satan in Seventeenth-Century English Literature written by Nancy Rosenfeld and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-02-24 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Framed by an understanding that the very concept of what defines the human is often influenced by Renaissance and early modern texts, this book establishes the beginning of the literary development of the satanic form into a humanized form in the seventeenth century. This development is centered on characters and poetry of four seventeenth-century writers: the Satan character in John Milton's Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained, the Tempter in John Bunyan's Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners and Diabolus in Bunyan's The Holy War, the poetry of John Wilmot, earl of Rochester, and Dorimant in George Etherege's Man of Mode. The initial understanding of this development is through a sequential reading of Milton and Bunyan which examines the Satan character as an archetype-in-the-making, building upon each to work so that the character metamorphoses from a groveling serpent and fallen archangel to a humanized form embodying the human impulses necessary to commit evil. Rosenfeld then argues that this development continues in Restoration literature, showing that both Rochester and Etherege build upon their literary predecessors to develop the satanic figure towards greater humanity. Ultimately she demonstrates that these writers, taken collectively, have imbued Satan with the characteristics that define the human. This book includes as an epilogue a discussion of Samson in Milton's Samson Agonistes as a later seventeenth-century avatar of the humanized satanic form, providing an example for understanding a stock literary character in the light of early modern texts.

Book Synopsis Satan's Greatest Lies by : George H. Russell
Download or read book Satan's Greatest Lies written by George H. Russell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2021-10-25 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years, George H. Russell has struggled to understand the meaning and purpose of ‘Organized Religion’ as condemned by Jesus and also to understand why wars and genocide are frequently associated with religion—making it seem that death and destruction are somehow condoned by God. While singing ‘Onward Christian Soldiers, Marching As to War’ in church, Russell could think only about Christians slaughtering Jews, Moors, Native Americans and others all in the name of Jesus. Satan’s Greatest Lies chronicles Russell’s attempts to understand a peculiar interpretation of Christian ideology encountered while living in East Texas. This is the introductory part of his book , followed by The Ethician Bible in which Satanic verses are removed from The Holy Bible by the author to spread only God’s loving messages to humankind. In Russell’s opinion, many of the messages in the Bible should be considered as sent from an evil Satan, not a benevolent God.

Download or read book Mouchette written by Georges Bernanos and published by New York Review of Books. This book was released on 2005-11-21 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the great mavericks of French literature, Georges Bernanos combined raw realism with a spiritual focus of visionary intensity. Mouchette stands with his celebrated Diary of a Country Priest as the perfection of his singular art. “Nothing but a little savage” is how the village school-teacher describes fourteen-year-old Mouchette, and that view is echoed by every right-thinking local citizen. Mouchette herself doesn’t bother to contradict it; ragged, foulmouthed, dirt-poor, a born liar and loser, she knows herself to be, in the words of the story, “alone, completely alone, against everyone.” Hers is a tale of “tragic solitude” in which despair and salvation appear to be inextricably intertwined. Bernanos uncompromising genius was a powerful inspiration to Flannery O’Connor, and Mouchette was the source of a celebrated movie by Robert Bresson.
