Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Secrets of Silver & Steam – The New Awakening is the first volume of the science fiction and epic fantasy series intertwining mythical creatures, thrilling world exploration, dark secrets, and the hidden world of Master Keepers (MKRs), which has remained shrouded in the annals of time. Little was known of them, but then one, Elior Lystander, emerged from behind the curtain of their existence as survivors began to rebuild following a world cataclysmic event known as The Great Collide. Such a phenomenon reunited the landmasses of the world and reset the motion of every civilization. War inevitability ensued as the race to establish dominance comes so naturally to humans. During the war, Elior lent his knowledge to the development of technologies known as Steam Tech, which now incorporates a rare metal, Mystic Silver, that holds immense potential to fuel machines. Where once steam power was employed in the pursuit of machine engineering, the magic metal has become one of the largest sought and valuable commodities. And now, the dust has settled on the three remaining kingdoms in what many refer to as The Last Age. By happenstance or destiny, Aagneya Nym, a recent graduate student, and new explorer, finds herself upon an expedition with none other than the famous MKR into the most dangerous place known to civilized folk, the Unlight. It is here Aagneya witnesses the power of Elior firsthand and is soon chosen to join him behind the curtain. How does one refuse the opportunity to become such a marvel? Aagneya finds herself awakened. As her power grows, so does her boldness in learning all she can about the magic she possesses and the secrets of Elior to better understand what he has kept at bay for so long. For many things in the dark can terrify even the most powerful of MKRs, but more so is the greatest of evils, seeking to emerge and devour all in its wake. It would seem for Aagneya, the world is about to come to ruin once more if she cannot ignite a fire in the darkness.

Book Synopsis The Works of William Perkins, Volume 1 by : William Perkins
Download or read book The Works of William Perkins, Volume 1 written by William Perkins and published by Reformation Heritage Books. This book was released on 2014-12-29 with total page 752 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume contains three of Perkins’s treatises. The first is A Digest or Harmony of the Books of the Old and New Testament , which offers a synopsis of the Bible that relates sacred history to the chronology of the world. Dating God’s creation of the universe in 3967 BC, Perkins develops his overview of redemptive history that culminates in the final judgment. The second treatise is The Combat between Christ and the Devil Displayed . Expounding Matthew 4:1–11, Perkins shows how Christ’s temptation in the wilderness (1) set Jesus up to serve as the second Adam, overcoming Satan’s temptation in a way the first Adam did not; (2) reveals how the devil assaults the church so that we might be better prepared to resist his temptations; and (3) equipped Christ to be a sympathetic high priest to those who are tempted. The third and most significant treatise is A Godly and Learned Exposition upon Christ’s Sermon in the Mount . “Hereof I have chosen to entreat,” says Perkins, “because it is a most divine and learned sermon, and may not unfitly be called the ‘Key to the whole Bible’; for here Christ opens the sum of the Old and New Testaments.” The fact that Perkins saw the Sermon on the Mount as unlocking the meaning of Scripture in its entirety suggests that his understanding of what Christ declares in Matthew 5–7 was pivotal to the development of his theology and piety. Series Description The Works of William Perkins fills a major gap in Reformed and Puritan theology. Though Perkins is best known today for his writings on predestination, he also wrote prolifically on many subjects. His works filled over two thousand large pages of small print in three folio volumes and were reprinted several times in the decades after his death. However, his complete works have not been in print since the mid-seventeenth century. This modern typeset edition of the Works includes four volumes of Perkins’s expositions of Scripture, three volumes of his doctrinal and polemical treatises, and three volumes of his practical writings.

Book Synopsis Maimonides' Hidden Torah Commentary -- Volume 1 - Genesis by : Michael Leo Samuel
Download or read book Maimonides' Hidden Torah Commentary -- Volume 1 - Genesis written by Michael Leo Samuel and published by First Edition Design Pub.. This book was released on 2022-09-20 with total page 1648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The epitaph on Maimonides's tombstone reads, "From Moses (the prophet) to Moses, there was none like Moses (Maimonides)." The name, "Moses Maimonides" (1138-1204) is an acronym for his Hebraic name Moses ben Maimon). For centuries, yeshiva scholars and students alike affectionately refer to him by the epithet, "the Rambam." Just as the original Moses became the founder of the religion of ancient Israel, Moses Maimonides redefined Judaism for the future generations-more so than any other Judaic thinker or Halakhic scholar who came before or after him. Modern Judaism owes its conceptual and legal foundations to this remarkable thinker. This remarkable person occupies a rare position in the annals of Jewish history and is widely considered as one of the greatest Jewish thinkers and philosophers who ever lived, Maimonides stature reached almost mythic proportions. Jews of all modern religious persuasions-from the ultra-liberal to the Haredi branches of Orthodoxy each claim Maimonides as their patron hero. Both Christian and Islamic thinkers held Maimonides (who refer to him as Musa ibn Maymun in Arabic writings) in high regard. __ I have been impressed with the writings of Rabbi Michael Leo Samuel ever since I read his first book on Philo. I enjoyed the comprehensive nature of his writings and the many insights in his books. I liked that he described Philo's views in an easy to read manner and compared Philo views with those of many ancient and modern writers. Since that time, I wrote six reviews of his Philo books and praised them all. There is much in them that will interest and teach both scholars and readers who had no idea beforehand about this first century philosopher, or just a little information about him. Reading Rabbi Samuel's books will introduce readers to a large number of Philo ideas, those of other thinkers on the ideas, including the Talmuds and Midrashim, and about philosophy and Judaism generally. Thus, when Rabbi Samuel asked me to write the Foreword to his first book on Maimonides, I was very pleased to accept his offer, both out of respect for his scholarship and because I wrote many books and articles on Maimonides myself. - Rabbi Dr. Israel Drazin __ Rabbi Michael Leo Samuel is the son of a Holocaust survivor. He holds two rabbinic ordinations from the Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch Yeshiva of 770 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn and holds a D. Min degree from the San Francisco Theological Seminary. He is an avid student of the Greek classics, Biblical and Talmudic scholarship, Jungian Psychology, Western Medieval Theology, Modern Philosophy, and 20th century psychology. He is the author of The Lord Is My Shepherd: The Theology of the Caring God (1996), Birth and Rebirth Through Genesis (2010), A Shepherd's Song: Psalm 23 and the Shepherd Metaphor In Jewish Thought (2014), and Rediscovering Philo of Alexandria: A First Century Jewish Commentator (Volumes, 1-5), (2014-2018).

Book Synopsis Kabuki Plays on Stage. Volume 1 by : James R. Brandon
Download or read book Kabuki Plays on Stage. Volume 1 written by James R. Brandon and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2002-02-28 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kabuki Plays On Stage represents a monumental achievement in Japanese theatre studies, being the first collection of kabuki play translations to be published in twenty-five years. Fifty-one plays, published in four volumes, vividly trace kabuki's changing relations to Japanese society during the premodern era. Volume 1 consists of thirteen plays that showcase early kabuki's scintillating and boisterous styles of performance and illustrates the contrasting dramatic techniques cultivated by actors in Edo (Tokyo) and Kamigata (Osaka and Kyoto). The twelve plays translated in Volume 2 cover a brief period, but one that saw important developments in kabuki architecture, acting, dance, and the manipulation of characters and themes. As the series title indicates, the plays were translated to capture the vivacity of performances on stage. The translations, each accompanied by a thorough introduction that contextualizes the play, are based not only on published texts, but performance scripts and the study of the plays as they are performed in theatres today. Each volume is lavishly illustrated with rare woodblock prints in full color of Tokugawa- and Meiji-period productions as well as color and black-and-white photographs of contemporary performances. Published with the assistance of the Nippon Foundation.
