Book Synopsis Un hôtel, quel modèle ? by : Stefan Fraenkel
Download or read book Un hôtel, quel modèle ? written by Stefan Fraenkel and published by De Boeck Supérieur. This book was released on 2013-11-28 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Personnages is an intermediate French text that features a learner-centered, four-skills approach with a strong emphasis on oral communication. Students are exposed to the language and culture of the French-speaking world through features that present characters interacting in different Francophone settings. A revised full-color design makes the text organization easier to follow, enhances its visual appeal, and dramatizes its cultural material. The scope and sequence have been revised to make the amount of grammar presented in each chapter more manageable for students to learn. Culture is an integral part of what students learn and practice while using the text, which examines Francophone culture by highlighting 10 different French-speaking areas around the world.
Book Synopsis The Bureaucrat and the Poor by : Vincent Dubois
Download or read book The Bureaucrat and the Poor written by Vincent Dubois and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welfare offices usually attract negative descriptions of bureaucracy with their queues, routines, and impersonal nature. Are they anonymous machines or the locus of neutral service relationships? Showing how people experience state public administration, The Bureaucrat and the Poor provides a realistic view of French welfare policies, institutions and reforms and, in doing so, dispels both of these myths. Combining Lipsky's street-level bureaucracy theory with the sociology of Bourdieu and Goffman, this research analyses face-to-face encounters and demonstrates the complex relationship between welfare agents, torn between their institutional role and their personal feelings, and welfare applicants, required to translate their personal experience into bureaucratic categories. Placing these interactions within the broader context of social structures and class, race and gender, the author unveils both the social determinations of these interpersonal relationships and their social functions. Increasing numbers of welfare applicants, coupled with mass unemployment, family transformations and the so-called 'integration problem' of migrants into French society deeply affect these encounters. Staff manage tense situations with no additional resources - some become personally involved, while others stick to their bureaucratic role; most of them alternate between involvement and detachment, assistance and domination. Welfare offices have become a place for 're-socialisation', where people can talk about their personal problems and ask for advice. On the other hand, bureaucratic encounters are increasingly violent, symbolically if not physically. More than ever, they are now a means of regulating the poor.

Download or read book Sur quel pied danser? written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Fifteenth-Century Studies 38 written by Barbara I. Gusick and published by Camden House. This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annual collection of essays on diverse aspects of the fifteenth century, this year emphasizing topics in medieval literature. The fifteenth century defies consensus on fundamental issues; most scholars agree, however, that the period outgrew the Middle Ages, that it was a time of transition and a passage to modern times. Fifteenth-Century Studiesoffers essays on diverse aspects of the period, including liberal and fine arts, historiography, medicine, and religion. Volume 38 addresses a broad spectrum of topics: monastic reformation of domestic space in Richard Whitford's Werke for Housholders; Margery Kempe and spectatorship in medieval drama; The Book of Margery Kempe and the trial of Joan of Arc; a new edition and interpretations of The Book of the Duke and Emperor in the context of MS Manchester, Chetham's Library 8009 (Mun. A.6.31); two cultural perspectives on the Battle of Lippa, Transylvania (1551); translation and manipulation of audience expectations in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight; the dry tree legend in medieval literature; and Wessel Gansfort, John Mombaer, and medieval technologies of the self. Book reviews conclude the volume. Contributors: Brandon Alakas, Maria Dobozy, Andrew Eichel, Rosanne Gasse, Kate McLean, Jesse Njus, Sarah Ritchey, P. R. Robins. Barbara I. Gusick is Professor Emerita of English at Troy University, Dothan, Alabama. Review editor Rosanne Gasse is Associate Professor of English at Brandon University.
